Awww, but he's so helpful and insightful! Remember the metric Wright wrench thread? After he told me all I needed for construction equipment were adjustable wrenches, I sold my toolbox and tools. Now I just carry a 12" in my pocket and a 36" at my desk. Can't believe how much more work I can get done!

And he also taught me that no matter how good of a mechanic you are, you're nothing if you don't have a box full of Snap-On tools! There really is a difference!

Just figured that with this thread probably closing I'd have some fun.

ha ha ha. Jealously won't make you a better mechanic either.

Better not question him. He is a self proclaimed "professional mechanic at the top of his game" so he knows everything. Just don't ask him how to change a u-joint because even with his snapon joint press he has to pay a shop to do that for him:pimpflash:lol_hitti

Alright fellas. I have read all the replies to my post, and can see that you guys think I'm an *** hole, an idiot, and a dumb ***. So therefore, I'm not returning to this website. I was just wanting to compare my dealers to other dealers to see if these guys were really bullshittin me or not. But instead, I get insulted by a bunch of childish *** holes with their snap on wrenches stuck up their asses. Now, that being said, I really hope this post just pisses you guys off to the point where you bust your computer screens. Have a nice day

buh bye

I would love for you to show me how to use a HF socket and hammer to do the job but I suspect NONE of you actually use tools for a living. Just a bunch of tool polishers jealous cause you can't afford real tools. :lol_hitti

The box was $2500, so there's $87,500 in tools?

That's pretty impressive since you've been a tech for less than 3 years. I should go work in your shop because they obviously pay great! Congrats on the awesome job.

I was expecting more along the lines of: "Is that a breaker bar in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" "Do you have an inspection mirror in your wallet, because I could see myself in there?" "Let me see if my big tool will fit in your box."

This is the only redeeming quality of the thread :bounce: and my new sig line

We've got Snap On, Matco, Cornwell and Stahlwillie trucks. Not once have any of the guys tried to feed us B.S. Always helpfull, honest and just good guys. Your paying big bucks because they're quality tools that COME TO YOU. These guys dont make a lot of money, ask 'em. Our Matco guy was on the verge of losing his house. Also, take a look at Snap On's web site under "become a Snap On Dealer". These guys invest up to $300,000 to do this, they're entitled to make some money. Dont like the tool trucks...Go hang out at Sears or HF

I'm laughing so hard at you right now. It's sad you waste your time following my posts trying to figure my life out so you can have something to say. Is your life that pathetic? If you like Sears, HF, anyone else besides SO just go and buy their tools and don't worry about it. I don't think about anyone here on these forums when I make a tool purchase or choice...
To counter you elaborate points though, I started working as a tech in 1998 at a dealer. When I made that comment in 2009 about some random scan tool I bought I think I was in between jobs maybe I don't remember but I think my point was I was a dealer tech and had no use for an aftermarket scan tool. Kinda fuzzy but I think that was my point.

I did pay $2500 for that box in the picture(pretty good deal huh?) That doesn't mean it's not worth a whole lot more. Go price them on CL or feebay. Value has nothing to do with what I pay for something.
The cart next to it was $900 and all the tools added up on my tool spreadsheet at that time in 2009 totaled just over 90K. In the last two years I've purchased about 9-10K a year. I know because I add up all my truck receipts, ebay purchases, Craigslist purchases and flea market purchases and I give them to my tax lady to use as a deduction. This year should be around 14-15K because I bought a Solus Ultra last month before the end of the year.
I think I have more than 110K at work now but I haven't crunched the numbers. It's too time consuming just adding new stuff to my spreadsheet.

Business isn't as good as I'd like it to be but it's a living. I have a skill set that's useful and I can work anywhere I want. I'm probably not the best tech in the world or anything but I'm definitely above average.
I'm happy with where I'm at, in two weeks I'm flying out of state for an interview for a job with a major auto manufacturer and I'll probably land it and be done with working at the dealer. Anything else you want to know?
One of my balls is smaller than the other one too :)

There's a lot of love going on in this thread.*

*And by "love", I mean the kind of un-lubed love you find in a typical prison assault.

Its a funny strange kind of story. He and his wife were at the annual dealer meeting and one of the things they had for dealers to sell was jerky. Remember that here in the upper midwest they sell a lot of jerky and sausage sticks. So he's walking around figuring out what to order and his wife said get some of the jerky because it will sell. He thought she was nuts and passed on it for an hour or so as he was trying to order (spend lots of money) stock for the truck while it was on sale.

In one of those peace in the family moves to keep her happy or make amends because he told her she was nuts he ordered a case of jerky. Sold it in less than a day. been on the truck ever since. In the summertime if you go on the truck he has a cooler with drinks in it for free.

Its a regular occurrence to get different van guys around, they're all full of the same lines.

Tool sales man who normally gives us the shop supplies: "I've got a new range of tools in. These are a new company starting out, their sockets and spanners are made to the same quality as Snap on & Mac, you wanna snap them up before they start putting their prices up"

Me: "But you've never sold snap on"

Salesman: "No"

Me: "Or Mac"

Salesman: "No"

Me "Fitting" - Walk away
