Your welcome Brad. How about letting us know what you get and how it works for you?

Will do. Might be a little while if I decide to make it an item to search for at Carlisle later this year.

That's where I got this (GS80060) set last year for $40...

Which is a great set except for lacking a ratchet handle!

That does look like a great deal. Incidentally you might find one on eBay. I don't know for certain but I think the ratchets actually branded Gearwrench may have better workmanship than perhaps Craftsman.

After finding that none of the local Sears/Ace stores stocked the 1/4" pass-thru ratchets, I decided to pull the trigger on this Gearwrench set (8923)

Currently available on eBay for $22.22 shipped, I figure that's about as good as it's going to get. Here's the ebay link, realizing it will be short-lived link, but might be useful for someone in the short-term.

I totally forgot I had those sets in both sae and metric. The ratchets are complete junk. Both states skipping almost immediately. Hopefully you'll have better luck then I did.

I've used this ratchet a couple times now and it's worked as designed. Since it's effectively equivalent to a 1/4" socket I haven't used it for big-torque requirements, but I've certainly used it where the GearDriver Handle wouldn't deliver enough torque.

Now that I've got three different sets of pass-through socket sets (all Vortex GearWrench), I decided to just get a dedicated toolbag for all three. I would have just preferred that they included the ratcheting handle in the GS80060 set. I even tried to figure out a way to make a space in the molded case, but no luck.

Thanks again Brad. Didn't know that existed. There have been adapters for Lowe's pass thru ratchets to use GearWrench/Craftsman pass thru sockets. Some show up on eBay.

As the "New home of Craftsman tools", it'll be interesting to see if Lowe's starts selling/stocking the less common Craftsman tools such as this. I won't be holding my breath. So far my local Ace Hardware has been a disappointment in their stocking of individual Craftsman sockets. That was always the nice thing about Sears - how they fully stocked individual tools for warranty replacement.

Does anyone know of another set (or square/bit adapter) that’s compatible with the Facom/USAG/Wera through ratchets? Ratchets are are 11mm 12pt with retaining ring, and sockets are 6pt with notch.

I list them together because I assume they have the same OEM. Wera Zyklop FA sockets work on the USAG locking flex through ratchet.

Pix or links w/same would be helpful.

Fair enough. The attached pictures show the USAG ratchet and 7mm through-sockets by USAG (my USAG kit came with sockets stamped with the Facom logo, as you will see below) and Wera, as well as Wera socket on USAG ratchet.

I do not know if sockets are available as open stock.

Thanks!

That’s a source I didn’t even think to look at. I assumed the Taiwanese OEM for Facom/USAG and Wera made this tool for others as well.

I do want to avoid two ratchets taking up space in a super small portable tool kit (i-Boxx Mini) so I’ll pick one up to test and report back

I’m more likely to try removing the retaining ring on the bitholder than modify the ratchet though.

That's what I meant: you might have to mod the socket.

I think the OEM is Hi Five. Or the designer anyway. Whoever could certainly make what you want, but I guess there is not enough demand for it.

Thank you for posting retDAC, this was very useful.

I use a lot of threaded rod on my demolition derby cars. I picked up a set of the pass thru sockets at Harbor Freight on clearance, they’re all there but no ratchet.

Some more brands for the “a”group. Halfords advanced, Wurth zebra, makita, westward, omega pro, mob, tack life. IMG_1606.jpegIMG_1597.jpeg
I have reason to believe that the Stanley/ bostitch pass thru (craftsman also made an alternate pass thru version under b&d to be compatible with these) could be compatible with bahco.
I’m not totally obsessed but it does get out of hand at times. Here’s my 1/4” and 1/2” drawers. I won’t show my stacks of pass-thru cases
Klein has a couple newish pass-thru sets. 1/4 and 3/8” drives with a weird spline drive.

Welcome to the board and thank you very much. For whatever reason when this board was changed over to different software, I am not allowed to make corrections. The goofy characters also appeared then.

Finally was able to eliminate the weird characters and get the system to stop believing I had 30k+ characters. Have added the others but could not find a link for a TackLife set.

Thanks. Have added Klein to Group J since it appears to use the Kabo style drive as far as I can tell from pix.
I was playing with a set recently. They were standard 12-point. They may be doing spline too. I haven't been following all the releases and design changes with this system. Their retaining ring works great with the 12 point sockets and accessories.

I don't have any Lowe's near me, but last time I was in one I was impressed with how many individual Craftsman hand-tools they were stocking. Alas, I forgot to check if they had any individual pass-through ratchets or sockets. Has anyone else looked?

I'm confused - which group is the 11mm outer hex with retaining notches, e.g. Facom/USAG, Wera, Würth, Matco, and now I think VIM too?

That looks bigger than 11mm outer hex. Also 3/8” drive rather than 1/4”!

From the OP: "Most brands of Pass Thru sets label them as 3/8", 1/4", or 1/2" Drive. This refers to the range of socket sizes for each of those and IMHO, it should be 'Drive Equivalent'."

Some brands only have one DE; others, two or even three.

The groups are designated by retention style, not DE size. In many cases I could only go by pix on the 'Net.

Thank you very much and welcome to GJ. There are many on this board who know far more than I about most tools.
I tried to do something that might help with these particular niche tools since, unlike regular square drives, there are so many variations, finding replacements might be difficult for other than, say, GearWrench.

Have been told I "need to get a life."

Adding some knowledge to this database thread. I realize it's an old thread, but it is very detailed. I went ahead and purchased a GW 893823
