My wife's too busy inside the house to help me in the garage....ripping out carpet and installing 1600 sq ft of laminate flooring on her own....then there's changing out the tub and putting new toilets in.
She's so lazy, she hardly hung half of the OSB in my shop on steel studs with a 16 foot ceiling....sheesh, how'd I end up with such a woman! She's got so much time on her hands, decided to go to university to take nursing...for something to do.

She may be a "keeper"!

My wife is a doll, she will help out anytime i ask. She actually encourges me to not go cheap when buying things for the garage. I just spent $2300 on gladiator storage.

My wife usually helps when I ask. She helped me build our RV. Right now I won't let her unless it's light duty. Somehow she went out and got herself pregnant, so I won't let her do any of the "heavy" stuff she usually does.

i mostly work alone,
when i do need some help, sometimes it's like pulling teeth

if she's already outside it's usually not too much of a problem, sometimes getting her out of the house when it's hot, or cold can be a challenge
my 19 yr old stepdaughter helps me out sometimes tho.

neither one shows much interest in the garage, except to get in the car and pull it out.

last november i needed to get a tool box out of the basement,into the truck and swap it out with another set of boxes.
thankfully my stepson and a friend of his were around to help.
but i did have to listen to them complain about how cold it was, and how heavy the boxes were

My wife is fantastic. Has no problem with me buying tools, or spending time in the shop. She helps anytime I ask and is a very hard worker. She also keeps the house clean, does MOST of the cooking (I try to help out there as I love to cook as well), keeps my clothes clean - including the greasy ones, and leaves the shop all to me. She doesn't hang around just to hang out - that's not her thing.

i really try to make sure i don't ask her to come help unless I can't do it by myself. I appreciate her willingness to help and don't want to abuse it.

My wife will help with anything I ask for on anything I work on. If it's hobby stuff, then she'll only help when asked. But if it's something we need to get done for the familly / house, she offers to do as much as she can and checks in on the progress often and keeps the opropriate fuel flowing (coffee when it's cold, iced tea in the heat).
She will also go out of her way to do as much as she can when she knows I have limited time. One time, the water heater blew up while she was home and I was working. She shut off the valves, took the truck to Lowes and bought a new one and with the help of another neighbors wife, had it in the cellar standing next to the dead one waiting for me to hook up when I got home.

I can't complain about mine. She puts up with my cranky a**. I'm about as **** as it comes when doing projects. If it ain't straight, or how I want it, it gets done again. Drives her nuts but she understands it's who I am.

Bought her a '67 Camaro for us to work on. I'm hoping she will put in the time on this car. She said she wants to be able to tell people she built it.

Getting contractors together to get concrete in half of my 45'x72' shop, she's completely on board since the horses will get half until the big barn gets fixed.

We've built and remodeled numerous houses. Actually lived in one while we did a complete, strip to the studs remodel. That was rough, but she hangs drywall, muds and sands, builds walls, and will pull electric at times. She asked me to teach her to weld. Woo Hoo, got a 'new' used welder out of that one. God love the woman for putting up with me. Gonna get her own set of tools for her Camaro real soon.

I like working alone too as some havestated. But sometimes help is needed. And we work pretty good together bleeding brakes. She has also helped me pick up an engine to set it in the frame of a motorcycle. She grew up on a farm with 3 sisters and no brothers. Her dad didn't let that stop him from haveing them out there plowing, discing and whatever else was needed. She could drive a 3 on the tree at age 12.

Not any more. I asked her to help me (re-)move an old washing machine that was taking up the right side of our 2-car. Her car was parked on the left side when she started down the steps.

Somehow she missed every step and face-planted into the 1/4 panel of her Mustang. By the time I got over to her she was covering her face with both hands. She pulled her hands away to ask if her teeth were still there. Her teeth were fine, but her nose was now pointing towards her cheek! I told her that she broker her nose, and she reached up and bent it right back. (she's not tough, she's Italian!) The ER doctor said he couldn't have done a better job fixing it himself. Oh, and she left teeth marks down the 1/4 panel through the clear-coat and a small dent, which I never fixed.

She doesn't help in the garage too much any more.

Mine is the EXACT same way as the Doc's, and she has a full time job and we have 2 sons, ages 6 and 2.5. She's the best.

My wife and I are "addicted" to Porsches, we've had 15 of them over the years. When we went through our Concours phase, we went FULL Concours. That's where the judges get under the car and deduct tenths of a point for ANY speck of dust that they find. It was nuts! We prepared the car for almost a month before the national Porsche Club show. She did the underside of the 356 and we won First Place in our Class and then went on to win First in our division. The judges gave us a perfect score on the underside.

Hell she helped me build my shop! She will help when ever I ask for it and if I already have help she keeps us well fed.
She just got herself a 69 Harley Rapido (125cc 2 stroke) and has begun to turn wrenches on it.

My dear wife comes out when absolutely necessary since most of our garage and barn stuff is heavy lifting and hard work. However, when we relocated and remanufactured our kitchen across the house, she helped install the radiant heat and handled the finish on the wide board flooring all by herself--1,000 sq ft of it!! She'll jump when needed but handles more esoteric stuff like the inside stuff while I handle the 45 acres of the outside.

Definitely a keeper by any measure!!

My wife has always helped. She would prefer to be outside working rather than in the house, unless she is cooking. She is always ready to help in the garage or go out and clean the bird dog kennels. If I am good she will even let me take her Bass Boat out to a tournament with out her. The only place she puts her foot down is the horses. She will not help there. Oh well can't have everything.

Just recently I found a milling machine at a real good price and she said you've always wanted one buy it. Agreed, I actually had my wife go sand a car while I was doing another job so when I got home I had less to do and I could paint it that evening.Like he said it goes both ways, I do chores in the house as well. She has no problem coming to help when I need it.

Wow, I'm flaberghasted at the amount of positive responses. I wouldn't have thought the percentages would be that high, but I spose the sample pool here is probably a bit slandted toward a "hands on as a hobby" class of people in the first place.
My wife will help on occasion, I'd say about 30%, but it has to be the right time. Plenty of time I get a flat out "No", plenty of time I get a "Later", and occasionaly a "yes". This is starting to be a bit more offset though by the fact that I have two kids, one of which is a 10yr old boy, who is starting to be able to pitch in when I need a second set of hands. In fact he was helping me this morning trying to set up a remote desktop connection on my computer!

I mean after all it's a partnership and doing things together is what it's all about. We had a boat, she even baits her own hook. Actually, the ability to work together in the shop was part of her "rite of passage" before getting married. My first wife was a princess. Beautiful, well mannered, liked expensive things, (you probably get the picture). Did she help in the shop? Uh . . . no. She didn't want anything to do with getting dirty.

When I was in my 20's, I figured all women with class were like this, so I was happily married to "princess" for 20 years. She then informed me she was in love with someone else . . . . someone with a Mercedes company car, a Ferrari, a 50' yacht, and a flat in London. It was definitely a surprise.

After the heartbreak, I realized that maybe I could do better next time . . . if there was a next time. I dated a few women after the divorce, but at that point in my life I wasn't looking for a trophy, just a best friend. So, once I got to know them, I asked my dates to help with several projects that I had going on. One stood out. She helped drywall, carried lumber, helped repaint a tractor, and helped change oil and do tune-ups.

I married her.

Since then, she has really gotten interested in motorcycling. She now owns and maintains two bikes of her own. And we take touring vacations together.

On top of that, she's beautiful, funny, has a good salary, can cook, and gets along well with my family. To be honest, she could have done better than me, but I am thankful everyday.

Is she perfect? Close. And she looks great with her hair pulled back and a grease smear on her nose.
