Frank, That's super cool. I know one handle rotates the t-slots what do the other two do? Raise and lower it? Or shift it side to side and front to back?

Yes, X, Y and rotate.Yes, side to side and front back, along with rotation. Hard to find, especially with the clamps.
Dang! Nice find!I picked this set up at the flea this morning, hiding on a table with a bunch of miscellaneous socket sets. Complete! I don't think the vendor knew what they were even as he sold them to me. I am guessing late 40's or early 50's based on the markings. The ad is from the 1952 cat. The box is homemade.
I just packed one of these hand carry boxes home too. Sitting in the hazy beach light outside a coastal junk shop the wrinkled gray finish had a bluish hue to it that got me to look inside. Obviously never a mechanics box. More of a time capsule of what a 50's era homeowner might have kept on a shelf for occasional use. I doubt I bother to clean it up at all or separate it from the contents. This one's 20" wide and also has the aluminum handle. Also a little cash box with a heritage logo that came along for the ride. Ed.This carry box was practically free. I'll probably cart it along to a big show/sale this year where I plan to get rid of a lot of my stuff, just in case someone likes the patina. Otherwise, I will salvage the badge. Hard to believe there's "Machinery gray" under there somewhere. Funny thing is, one look at the inside and it instantly reminded me that it's the color of every other 2023 model car on the road these days!![]()
Nice time capsule! I really like the RIG box (and I assume the contents) that looks practically unopened!I just packed one of these hand carry boxes home too. Both of those are nice boxes but the small, cash style one is exceptionally nice. That’s an early “first gen” heritage logo that you don’t often see. Both of those appear to have lead an easy lifeI just packed one of these hand carry boxes home too. Mine has more of a 2023 Ford Cactus Green hue, but yeah, that's it. It's funny, because they are telling two completely different stories! As I was looking through the thread for pictures of what the original color SHOULD be, I saw that @d42jeep found a nearly mint one, too.I just packed one of these hand carry boxes home too. Divine Picker's Providence! I love when that happens. Also, in the box were the missing pieces to a RTEC set I had in my basket!
Yes, X, Y and rotate.
I think those t-slot nuts are an odd size. The jaws take 3/8" socket head bolts, but I can't find nuts with 3/8-16 threads that are 1" wide at the base, 1/2" tall, 5/8" slot. I'm still not positive those are the oe nut dimensions.

I picked this up yesterday at a digger estate sale. It was sitting upright in a bucket out behind the far shed.
Thinking it roached out, I pick it up, and feel it rattle. I check inside, and low and behold:
As you can see, most of what is there (and it is missing a few pieces) are still covered in the BLO like substance they used. The pieces on the right are circle U, and do not match the rest of the set perfectly, but I was surprised to find all of this. Also, in the box were the missing pieces to a RTEC set I had in my basket!

Very nice set! I believe this box is made of the same material as the nut driver’s stand from this era. Neither held up well and they are not very common to find(photo is taken from a current eBay listing)As posted on the Garage Sale Thread, I found this 25 piece Craftsman 5460 T&D set last week. I'm not especially big on T&D sets, but the box for this one intrigued me. I thought it was some sort of early composite material but according to the 1949 catalog, it's just pressed wood--and I take that to mean pressed sawdust. The box weighs three pounds empty. Prior to '49 the set was only offered in a hardwood case. The 1950 & 51 catalogs are not available on archive.org and the set does not appear in the '52 catalog.

The set is missing a few items:
The Tap Wrench (No. 4067)--which I sourced this weekend on ebay for twice what I paid for the whole set...
Both 1/4" NC & NF taps
The 5/16" NF & 7/16 NC taps, along with the 1/8" NPT tap
The 1/2" NC and the 1/4 NF dies are O.K. Jrs. from Greenfield Tap and Die (G\T/D) and the 1/2" NF die is missing
The red Adjustable Die Stock is missing the cam plate and screws
The screw driver was missing but I loaned the set one that is pretty close to pictures on the internet
The red interior contents label
The set included several extra taps, most from GTD, who I think it's pretty apparent supplied the set to Sears.

Hello! That is a really nice sharpening stone. This particular logo is most correct in the long c thread but I know it’s kind of confusing since the catalogs show both the long c and heritage logo at the same time in certain years. Link below to the long c threadHey all, long time listener, first time caller. I’m not sure if this fits here as a Heritage Logo, but I’ve got some other stuff that definitely fits the bill, I’ll post it up tomorrow.
