Very Cool!! I had not paid any attention to this before but it really adds something to the work, both in aesthetics and strength. I may have to look into getting a set of these. Nice work.

A 2" sched 40 pipe and a 2" sched 80 pipe will be two different outside diameters. The 2" is on the inside.

Actually that is wrong, pipe size is determined by some oddball schedule noone uses anymore. 60 seems to fit the best.
But the OD is always the same, the ID changes as per the schedule used.
See table below from McMaster-Carr, they have sold a few pipe fittings and a bit of pipe over the years.

For the people that find them hard to use because you are left handed, look in a tool catalog and buy left handed cutting tips. They make them, but don't supply them with the new Vargus because they thing everyone is right handed.

For sure. I didn't get the fascination with them until I noticed that McMaster-Carr carries the left handed blades. I bought a package and my deburring tool is suddenly much more useful.

Some dimple die pics to stay on topic:

Right now, I only have a 3/4" die that I made a while back. I'm planning to make some to use in my Whitney-Jensen punch press once I get moved into my new shop.

Thank's for the info Mario.
But remember that I made my dies to work with the HF knock out punch kit sizes.

Cool man. Nice work. Thank's for sharing.

Wasn't criticizing your stuff, just clarifying how pipe is measured and posting a nice table of sizes I use a lot.

Been doing a few bits and pieces these last couple of days

Additional gussetting to the H-Frame on an MG Midget

Radiator Supports for MG Midget to replace standard items, dimples allow it to maintain some for of rigidity when the supports dont have a front panel to assist them

rattled out a batch of normal gussets too for myself and a friends build

Nasty.......I would have never thought of using the dimple dies for something like that, but it's a hell of an idea. Nice job for sure, and as always, your work is just superb.:thumbup:

Here is a little dimpling on some aluminum holders for the oil and ****** coolers on my current daily driver.

And here is a project that I was involved in, back in my off-road (Baja type) days. I forgot exactly how many dimpled holes we had, but I think it was into the 100's.

Anyone have some info regarding on the longevity of using these (NASTYZEN's dies) on steel? I work primarily in 0.065" steel and have seen the galling on the die, but didn't figure it to be too big of an issue for a hobbyist like me. With that said, I'm sure I would use one particular size more than others and would hate to see it wear out. This is the only set I've seen for a reasonable price that has a fully radiused lip instead of the usual 45* chamfer.

Of course this might be the bump I need to start fabbing in aluminum...

^^Great work JOHNFX^^ That's a quality mount you've built for yourself.

They're a one-off (or two-off, lol). Just aluminum holders for added coolers on an '06 Dodge Magnum SRT8. Thanks.

~0.090 material.

This is a bracket to mount the BMW hood latch in my MGB project. It mounts in front of the radiator so the holes allow for some airflow.

I have some Dies I made out of Aluminum decades ago that still work fine today.
I think you should be good for hundreds of Dimples with my dies.
Go back and do some reading in here.

You could always have it hardened, or since Nasty's got the dimensions, have that particular one made out of hardened steel.

Even at that, when I made punches at work for different jobs, and even on steel rivets, I would see galling on the hardened punches. I'd have to chuck them up in the lathe and polish them every so often. You also want to make sure you use a good lube, and make sure you deburr your holes before forming them. A good lube to use is something like STP and even Vaseline makes for a good lube.

Some bracing on an ice oval racing snowmobile. Mis-judged how close the tubes were and ended up having to undercut my die to slide it in there
