Aluminium can be fun. Just have a look at the Diesel tanks on HOTFR8 (the F4 Truck) when next this way.

Since we are talking diesel tanks I scored an aluminum one from a truck, I will post a pic or two when I pick it up..

Not too sure what I am going to use it for but I am confident I will find a use for it down the track.

Regards

That's a pretty big tank! Look forward to seeing you get some use out of the welder.

Its about 2 ft 6 dia. x 3 ft. long, huge..

I am still setting up the TIG at the moment but run the D.C arc the other night and I was very pleased with its performance you could almost make it talk.

If it don't fit you must just quit. Hmmm seen something like that somewhere.
Nice size tank.

Failure was not an option I can tell you, one way or another it was coming home with me.

Cheers.

My better half is also really good at organizing so we are both lucky there!!! Next weekend we are taking EVERYTHING out of the garage and she is going to help me put everything back in so it is easier to find things.

Keep up the updates!

My wife won't touch anything in my garage. In my case that's a good thing because everytime she straightens up any room with something of mine in it I never see it again.

My wife has her space and I have to ask to use anything there. Where are you going to find a spot for your wife, 1/2 Cup.? Your home and lot appear pretty filled up already.

Ditto but the line in the sand here is at the PA door, and I am the only one with the key to the shed:thumbup:

I think down the track when we get our storage sorted she can move into the Indoor / Outdoor room without much trouble.

Another update on the weekends progress.

The Aluminium Diesel Fuel tank, my eldest son spotted it and was fairly quick to put claim to it. He thinks it would make an ideal spit roast oven. I must admit the idea has merit.:dunno:

The Storage Solution / Carport build works are continuing on the site civils, another day on the crowbar and shovel and today should see me finish the column footing holes with a fifth trailer load of soil being removed. I have had to break out the 9 " grinder and jack hammer to cut away a small part of garden shed concrete slab for the last hole. Its been a tough and hard physical slog I can tell you but we are seeing light at the end of the tunnel so to speak..

The new TIG Welder I haven't had much of a chance to play with it apart from a couple of passes with the stick on DC, boy is that a smooth unit and it even makes my welds look half presentable.

You may have seen that my Brake Drum Pot Belly Heater was sold during the week, I had an offer that was real hard to knock back, I was pretty sad to see it go, any way onwards and upwards.

Have a great weekend.

Don't know what a spit roaster is but is aluminum a good choice for cooking after it has been exposed to fuels?

I get a huge sense of satisfaction out of chipping away at things and at the end of the day looking back and seeing that it has all been worthwhile even though what I got through yesterday hardly rates posting a picture.

I guess you guys would call them a rotisserie oven and you would probably be correct in saying that it would not be the best choice.
I have seen steel fuel drums converted into gas fired cooking ovens though and are quite popular out here.

Just a thought on the cooker, Wouldn't any fuel residue burn off?

Are there any chemicals that would saturate into the aluminum?

Quite possibly they may burn off in time, there are a few nasties in diesel that aren't conducive to good health, not worth the risk.

I have some reasonable lengths of 6 " x 3/16 aluminium that will make up some nice bearers for the tank to fit my trailer as a skid. It will give me some practice with the new welder as I haven't done much aluminium welding before.

Cheers

Finished the last of the new carport column foundation holes today, one more trailer load of clay to get rid of and I am done and dusted with the shovel and crowbar. Not much that is picture worthy at the moment.

Next week end I will be on the jack hammer pruning down the existing footings so I can fit the boxed culvert drainage gutter.

The unanimous decision has also been made ( giving credit to HSpencers' and sean Buick 76 s' well executed examples ) to eventually turn the existing garden shed, which is at the end of the carport any way, into a wood working shed which again will free up the shed in terms of space.

Its been a pretty hectic week at work , I think I drove over 1/2 the state for various projects we have on the go at the moment so I am actually looking forward to spending some time in the office this week and getting home at a reasonable hour for a change.

On the Storage Solution / Carport build front I borrowed a jack hammer to prune down the existing concrete footings to make way for the grated gutter. Four hours on this beast did the trick and yet another trailer load of busted up concrete to get rid of.

So this is where I am at the moment.

This next week I will concentrate on the fabrication of the column and truss support brackets and fly braces. I am a little over civil work at the moment ,the concrete job can wait till I recover.

Other notable stuff this past week;

. Our youngest flies out to the USA today for his workplace induction for a week at a Cyber Security company he started with two weeks ago, pity he didn't have room in his suit case for his dad.

. Repaired a fuel drain set for a pair of MG SU carbies for my eldest son.

. Installed a TV antenna and outlet for my dad.

Have a great weekend.

Aren't jack hammers fun!

Hope your son has a great trip! What State is he heading to?

Yep jack hammers are real fun..............NOT, but got the job done in the end.

My son has not long arrived in LA, he will be some where in Silicone Valley for the week. I don't think he will have a heap of time for site seeing though.

2 days later and I am still sore in places I did not know existed.

The jack hammer weighs, at best guess, at least 30 kgs ( 66 lbs )

The jobs done..

Thanks guys..

The Fabrication Bench draw sections were finally finished yesterday, the challenge for me now is to stick them together with the new TIG welder. I think I will do a little practice first up to get the unit set up right before I attack as it has been a number of years since I have done any serious TIG welding on stainless steel.

The sheet metal work has come up nicely considering it was scrap and off cuts I have had laying around. The draw faces and side infill panels are a brushed finished stainless and should compliment the bare metal finish of the bench.

During the week I have been fabricating some of the brackets I will need for the Storage Solution / Carport build. the purlin fly braces were completed and this weekend I will be concentrating on the truss brackets. The intention is to get all the brackets hot dipped galvanised when they are finished.
