Picked up this old...beat....craftsman box with contents for $20. After digging through the contents i got a nice set of mini taps and handle as well as lathe cutters and lots of other stuff. Now to see if I can save the Craftsman logos.

Not garage sale but GW. One of those ********* electician briefcases - smelled terrible. Inside there was a set of Allen USA wrenches, and Xcelite drivers (like new) and Xcelite spline drivers. Circuit tester, little hoursehair brush, cable crimper. $12.

Mom showed up unexpectedly this morning and and we went to see my daughter, I ran out of the house without my phone so when I got home a minute ago, I had several missed calls/texts from Mr_P as he was passing through here around the same time. Long story short, look what I scored and didn't even go sailing! Mr_P hooked me up bigtyme, gift on the door steps when I got home!!
There is what looks like a NOS Hummingbird, a sight level and my favorite, a stack of old school Parts Supply Catalogs from the 60-70's in like new condition!! I'll take some inside shots later, there are some hot models in the ads and lots of funny cartoons.

Super Thanks Mr_P!! Hope to be around next weekend when you pass back!

No problem Nine.

Antique alley starts tomorrow out here, so I'll be up early looking for stuff. Wish me luck.

Xcelites are probably the cause of the smell. Their plastic recipe contains the same ingredient that gives vomit it's distinctive smell.

Picked up some vintage iron today, '68 vintage to be exact. She's a lil' rusty, needs a cord, and the pump seems to be locked up, but the price was right - ten bucks! Gonna pull the head off to check out the valves and give the pistons a soak in MMO, then see if I can get it to break free. If I can get it working, it should be a nice improvement over my old HF compressor that I sold last week for $120.

Like the items I see others picking up.

Pics 1 and 2--Bought a broken handled shovel, as it came with a replacement handle. After cleaning up shovel, saw it was made by Union Fork and Hoe Co and it was their Razor-Back model. Interesting story on the shovel can be found at this link.

http://www.razor-back.com/razor-back-news/razor-back-great-ideas-are-made-by-hand/

Pic 3--Pitch or Hay Fork

Pic 4--Little Scout Vise by Wilton. This 4" jaw version was made in 60's and ended production in early 70s.

Pic 5 and 6-- A Federal Signal Corporation Rotating Vitalite Red Light Model 121S-120R in box and looks like never used. Plugged it in and it works.

Pic 7--Couple of wheels off old cart.

Not pictured, but picked up a tine hoe, as saw someone hear on GJ got one a month or so back. Mine has a broken handle, but may use handle I got today that was attached to shovel, to put this one back to work again.

Mike

If you do get it running check the tank. I have the exact same compressor and the tank was rusted out. Give the bottom of the tank some good whacks with a dead blow.

Will do, I can deal with motor and pump issues, but if the tank is shot then it's game over since I don't trust my welding skills for something that could explode on me. Fortunately humidity is generally low here in northern California, so I'm hoping that it won't be an issue.

Day 3, City 3: Today, I'm in Clearfield, UT, about 40 minutes north of Salt Lake City. Meetings wrapped up at 4:45, so time for dinner and some quick tool hunting. With no yard sales in the middle of the week (and strangely, hardly any estate sales around here at all, even in the next two months), I turned to the old standby, a local pawn shop. The first one my phone took me to was out of business, but at the second one I hit pay dirt. This place was big and clean, and had a ten gallon tub full of mixed sockets at a quarter apiece. I pawed through them for awhile and here's what I took away for $4:

Six Indestro Select 1/2" drive 12-pt sockets; 1" thru 1/2", but missing several sizes. I spent extra time trying to get every last one of these, but I'll always wonder...

Four vintage Proto Los Angeles 1/2" drive 12-pt sockets; 1", 25/32", 5/8", 9/16"

1867b7ca647bcd3b485a6ac480246b8b.jpg

Grab bag of other notable brands, including Williams, Indestro, Channellock, S-K and Indestro Super

I'm back in Utah this week and couldn't pass up the opportunity to revisit this pawn shop and paw through their loose socket bin. I was hoping to come across the missing Indestro Selects from above. Well, I didn't find any more, but did grab a handful of others for $4.

3/8" drive sockets, 12-pt unless otherwise noted
Proto Challenger, 1232 (1") & 1326 (13/16") deep well
S/K 40418 (9/16") long 6-pt
Indestro 6222 (11/16") & 6212H (3/8") 6-pt
Craftsman EE 44306 (15mm)
Williams B-1214 (7/16")

1/2" drive, 12-pt
New Britain NT 1224 (3/4") & NT 1225 (25/32")

Craftsman 1/4" ratchet, 44807 VT

Only find today $6. Looked like **** at first because it was missing two handles, the front door was bent up and there seemed to be a lot of rust. After a few minutes of scrubbing I realized most was surface rust and the slides are the only thing needing a lot of cleaning - the drawers are in great shape. Two missing knobs were in the bottom of the box.

And 5 minutes with a dremel

Dang Mr_P, best wishes on that major sale!!

There was an estate sale here in town that started today at 5pm and lots of tools were posted. I decided to hit it and Merc met me over there after work. There was a lot to look through but nothing hardly I couldn't live without. Since it was a 20 minute ride or so, I had to buy something so I dug deep and finally found a cool Long C Craftsman dove tail jig, hardly used and still had the mounting screws new in the bag along with the original instructions and box for $10. I walked around with Merc looking for anything else we may have missed and found the cool metal thingy for $2, is this a home made anvil stake for the hardy hole? I put it in my anvil hardy hole and it fits, just not all the way down. I also picked up a large glass globe(not shown) with a pine cone and dried butterfly sculpture hot glued together inside, Merc thought I collect dead butterflies but I bought it for the dome glass display. I'll be regifting the inside art to him for his birthday. :D

I made one late stop today and the tools looked mostly untouched. :dunno:

$45 for the lot.

Picked up another tie clip. Snap On this time. Looks like a new collection has been started. :scared:

P & C Ignition wrench and pliers set

A neat Craftsman tape measure, don't think I've seen this one. I have a bunch but I feel like there is an endless amount of different Craftsman tapes out there.

Hickory wood mallet. A bunch of screwdrivers. Proto, Mac, Champion, and a bunch of Bell System in different brands.

Pics of the rest of today's finds to come.

Pic 1--A Fruit of the Loom display shelving that was being used in a workshop. Told my wife it be perfect for electrician (shorts) or lawyer (briefs). Size is 71 inches long, by 55 inches tall by 20 inches wide at widest point.

Pic 2--Metal shelving that could be hung from wall or free-standing. Not sure what it would have contained, as has raised sections for something to sit between. It can also be turned upside down and avoid the raised sections as well. 30 inches wide by 10 inches deep by 23 inches tall.

Pic 3--Metal light shade, with protective bowl cage on bottom. Size is 11-1/2inches wide. Sticker on it was for Royal Mfg Co of Bowling Green Ohio.

Pic 4--Borax dispenser including key.

Pic 5--Kraeuter #2, Sunweld bell without a handle and wood handle scraper

Pic 6--Millers Falls 188A w/box. Can hear the bits rattling inside, but will have to see how to get to them.

Pic 7--Signal Stat 902 new in box.

Not pictured was a Littlestown Vise #144 by Howe & Forey Co. Littlestown PA

Stopped at a random garage sale today and saw this vise. I asked what was he thinking on the price and he said $5, i gave him $10 and said I don't need any change.

A lot of nice finds lately; I've been trying to be a good boy and save up for a mill so I've been trying to avoid going to sales. This weekend I'm on the other side of the fence...having a garage sale in the morning. Anybody near Baton Rouge, LA? A whole hell of a lot of nice things up for sale...mention GJ and get a free wood vise!

...unless your name is nine4gmc :D

D'oh! My girl will be by at 7am for the vise, thanks! :lol_hitti

Judgjng by my ride height, I probably have 1,000 lbs in the truck and hope to sell it all. There are a couple things I will not budge much on price but there are a couple things I would give away free too so we will see how it goes I guess.

Sooooo many tool sales around my house today. Surely one of them is on the way to some place I need to go. ..

I had 10 (it could have been more) sales that I was looking to check out. Due to time and distance I narrowed it down to 6. We'll see how it goes.

2 planned stops and 2 TOO. Found these at 1st stop of the day and then nothing. $3 for both. The lantern checks out fine so now I just need fuel. The recharge kit is open but unused. uploadfromtaptalk1463241401626.jpg

Bought this for $2 today. Looks like an older Craftsman logo but I don't know how old. Came with a red/orange metal tray inside.

Mike,
What exactly is that "Kraeuter #2" tool? It looks like a giant hole punch. I have one of those too, but not sure what it is for.

Thanks!
Well it looks like a punch because it is one. I have a few in different sizes that were used for sailmaking. But could be used for punching holes in any softer material. Leather, canvas kind of stuff.

Okay, so maybe my "retirement" is a transient state that depends on whether there's a sale nearby. I still contend that I'm not driving all over the country side every weekend looking for scores, so let's just call it "semi-retired".

So let's start with a sale I found near the Salt Lake City airport on Friday. I had 20 minutes to stroll through a residential house, garage and basement. It was a honey hole and day 2 of the sale, so bargaining was possible. I was limited by what could fit into my checked baggage, so I left some nice pieces behind, ones I previously would have bought for resale.

First up is a grab bag of DBE wenches (always seem to be the first things I grab): Westline, Sears, Barcalo Buffalo, Craftsman, Proto, and a ratcheting DBE from Robinair used for HVAC work. $1 each.
