Are you just referring to being a Silver or better member?

No, they definitely track profits for every member.

Extensive discussion on it on another board and the store manager showed me the screens that come up tracking profitability. They use it to control who gets what offers as well as level of service.

I can only imagine what a truely profitable customers get. Wait, lol, I just remembered a couple years ago getting an offer for 100% back for a ton of items, most I had never seen before. This was right after buying a washer & dryer. Well I had no need for that many points, so I bought enough stuff to cover the W&D, and rebought them, and returned on the previous receipt. Guess that triggered the offer. Only regret was not buying a few more items obviously

I've stocked a spare tool box using points. It's crazy to get something nearly free and then have them add more points. I was down to .04 worth of points, they "surprised" me with $5.00 and I bought an $8.00 item. I was given $1.53 back in points.
Regards,
John

Did SYWR Max change recently? It seems like I have to get to $30 on most purchases to get free shipping. I thought that it used to be $10 per item or something like that.

The 16-piece 3/8" metric socket set with the 75-tooth ratchet is back on sale, down to $20 again. ($20.39 for me, to be exact.)

FYI, so is the 16 Piece 6pt SAE Set which is nice having a socket going up to 1" in that set.

However, during the holidays they had these for $19.99 w/50% back in points which made them too good to pass up... $20 is still a good price but if you don't need them right away I'm sure some sales are just around the corner for spring.

I bought the Metric socket set and I'm pissed. In the picture you can see the divots. The wax I use to polish the ratchet, extensions, and sockets builds up in the divots and I have to dig it out with the pick set I bought from Sears on sale. It looks a hell of a lot worse in person. You fellow tool polishers know exactly what I'm talking about.

Just joking. I bought both the Metric and SAE sets to give to one of my sons. The only thing I don't like is that the Metric only goes to 18 MM and no 19 MM. But the SAE has a 3/4 inch socket so it really is covered.

I am pleased with the sets especially at the price. And I'm pretty sure my son is going to be pleased with the price since to him it is free.

This happened over a year ago (or close to that)

Yeah, I wish the metric went to larger sizes but it is what it is... I like the 3/8 75T ratchet, it has a good solid feel and size... Not sure what I would think about the 1/2" drive, I honestly haven't seen one of those yet... I've always stuck to the classic teardrop ones...

You really should try the 84tooth thin ratchets, the handle fits your hand so much better. I really can't stand the 75 tooth ratchets, but that may just be my hands.

To me the 1/2" feels solid and easy to grip. I never had a raised panel 1/2" to compare as I ended up with a rhft ratchet on clearance when I went to buy one. Only used a few times on the riding mower so nothing strenuous but its worked. The concrete pad really scratched up the chrome requiring vigorous polishing to buff out.
I did get the 3/8 metric to toss in the minivan, the Taiwanese Williams set I tossed in my wife's car has a 19 but I'm not certain either vehicle has much use for the 19 while the smaller starting size may be more beneficial as a light repair kit.

I should've took pictures(early in the AM wasn't thinking) but most of the Craftsman router bits (individually packaged) were on sale in store. Most were out of stock but they were 2-4$ ea.

It says $30 for Max, but depending on the item if you go around $15 it will usually give the option for free...

You all had me worried for a moment , but I see it is still working fine for me on tools $10 or more.

Here are items that are giving me the SYW MAX free shipping all the way to the final checkout page:

$10.07 - http://www.sears.com/gearwrench-0-x-60mm-phillips-head-mini-screwdriver/p-00991518000P

$10.23 - http://www.kmart.com/prime-wire-ec890708-8-foot-14-3-sjt-3/p-03417955000P

Some items are excluded from MAX, such as TP on Kmart. Guess it's considered a bulk item.

Level of service?

So the store employees look at this, and then decide if they're going to help you right away in finding a new fridge?

If you're not profitable enough, they tell you to go browse around while they help the other customer that showed up after you did?

Another customer? Usually the number of employees in the store way outnumber the number of customers in there...

Yeah it's just blonde vs brunette. I prefer the 75T handles over the U.S. 60's (now Taiwan 84's right?).

But then I liked the borderline gimmick CrossForce wrenches *only in the larger sizes when you gotta get after it*.

I might have to try those 75s based on you also liking those cross force wrenches. I thought they were a stupid idea until I tried them. I actually like them in all sizes.

I like them too. I have a set of the gearwrench version ("x-beam"), and I think they're nice. Not dramatically better than a regular wrench, but the comfort thing is real, and there really doesn't seem to be any trade-off.

Count me in on the cross force wrenches. I thought they were gimmicky, but after trying them I'm sold. I actually have a couple of sets now. I guess I need to quit resisting and try the 75 tooth rachet.

My mother-in-law bought me the gearwrench flex head x-beams, even though they're shorter then my old xl gearwrench they're more likely to be what I grab, just like that they don't dig into my hand. Its what I like about the contour grip wright and the 75t craftsman, just more to grab. Did almost grab the 1/2" sae set with the thin profile ratchet that was on sale to keep in the barn. Cost 2.00 more then just the ratchet.

I bought a set that included all three 75 tooth ratchets. The 1/2 inch is ridiculously heavy. I plan on grinding it down and capping it with a Craftsman Pro screwdriver handle.

Trade-offs as I see it are that they're a ***** to try to put in any drawer or wrench rack really. Basically they just take up more room, period. The good side of that is that there's a lot more steel in them.

I've got 4 CrossForces here, far bottom left. I actually keep the fifth (7/8") at my mill for my toe clamps. It's really nice for toe clamps for some reason.

Agreed, the 1/2" is a monster. But so are the X-Beam/CrossForces relative to their "regular" combination wrench counterparts.

But again OTOH I'm amazed at how much tool steel they threw at the 1/2" given the price point and how we're always bitching that everything these days is getting lighter/thinner/more fragile. Not to mention additional shipping weight on the slow boat(s).

The 1/2" 84 tooth is even heavier, like to the point of it might fatigue you using it.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're using the one that's "missing". But there's one that's backwards. Totally unacceptable. :lol_hitti

All the wrenches are backwards, I like to flip them the other way so they lay flatter against the wall, looks cleaner to my eyes but totally wishing I could do a layout like that.
Really love the ratcheting box wrenches with the rubber grips, a 15mm would be great for axle nuts.

Sweet! If and when you do that, would you post some pics and steps? (And, is this something I would find in the other parts of GJ?)

More Sears adventures: I went in today because I needed a 3/8"-drive, 3/4" hex impact socket. I was hoping to find a single one, expecting to pay $8 or so. They don't sell them as individuals, so I wound up with a 9-piece set for $21. Kind of had to work for it: price was marked $35, but $29.99 online, so I price-matched and then applied $10 of SYW surprise points. They really make you play the game.

Yes, it's just as dumb with ratchets... Pay $18 for just a ratchet, or pay $20 for a socket set with ratchet and case... They need to just fix all their prices and stop playing games with the customers... You can sure bet that Stanley won't do that ****...

Yeah, Stanley will probably just have a fairly high regular price...
