I carry one of 2 benchmade a 585 mini barrage or a 520 presidio both are combo edge barrage is reg finish the persidio is all black.. I have been very happy with them. I carry all the time...

I also have a Ka bar tdi close quarters knife that I carry once an a while.

I carry a small flashlight (Olight I3E) and small multitool (Leatherman Squirt or Gerber Dime) in my front right “coin” pocket (you know, that small pocket in your jeans). I then carry my main knife in the regular front right pocket. The knife I carry varies. It is currently a Case full size Trapper. Sometimes it is a Swiss Army Knife, Kershaw or Gerber.

Many of you may think “I don’t need a flashlight, I use the one on my phone”. The I3E costs < $10 and I use it every day. It is so much handier and functional compared to my cell phone flashlight.

I've carried a SAK daily most of my life. I recently purchased a small Kershaw folder which has found a home in my pocket. Still have a SAK Classic on my keys for the scissors and nailfile etc. Always have a small AAA flashlight.

Depending on the how the day is shaping up I will sometimes add a Victorinox Spirit multitool on my belt too.

My Grandfather gave me and my brother each a Swiss Army knife. I have carried a pocket knife since about 1961. If a teacher confiscated it from you , you had to see her after school to get it back. Now days , it would be a call to the police, suspension or expulsion!I always carried that or a Boy Scout knife in school. Later in life I carried a small Buck or Puma. About 25 to 30 years ago I started carrying a Spyderco and have not changed brands.

Before 9-11, we could carry a small knife or Leatherman in our flight bag, but those days are long gone. You don't realize how often you use a knife until you are not allowed to carry it.

Hell, I carry three, all Victornox. A Cybertool M in a belt holster w retractor, a Midnight MiniChamp on one half of my key ring, and a Classic SD on the other half.

(I had a hard time choosing between the MiniChamp and the Classic SD after I lost a Classic SD to faulty memory and TSA.)

When I was younger I always carried an old two blade knife, little blade razor sharp, big blade got the abuse. Later on it was, and still is, my Leatherman knockoff. I don't even use the blade much, it's all about the pliers, wire cutter and screwdriver blades. Saved me thousands of trips out to the truck to get real tools. I even use it in various ways to punch down wire on 66, 110 and Krone wiring blocks in a pinch.

I carry a Milwaukee box cutter on my keychain because I deal with boxes of books at work at our public HS frequently. This one flew on a plane with me... I forgot about it til I got to the airport and I'm surprised TSA didn't ****** it up.

I carry a Buck 285 when I'm working around the house or on a worksite, but I can't bring it to work.

My fave is a Swiss Army Floral Knife. It is designed for pruning and grafting work but it makes a great daily carry knife. It has a single straight blade that's razor sharp and really holds an edge. It's different from the rest of the Swiss Army line in that it has textured side plates. Makes for a much better grip. If you have a knife then another must have is the Schrade Old-Timer Honesteel. It keeps all my knives plenty sharp.

Always have something on me. Either a folding utility knife, cheap clip on, or small multi-tool. None are fancy or expensive and they get lost a lot and usually found. Nothing worth crying over.

Anyhow, on a job site today, knives were not allowed, period. Construction site with a bunch of liars not using knives.

Oh man, I had forgotten about those. My mother had those in the flower shop when I was in high school. Wonderfully basic knife. The steel would take one hell of a sharp edge.

In an earlier post, I mentioned this knife. It was my first one and I keep it for sentimental value.

You can see the broken "larger" blade. I did that trying to pull a staple out. Lesson learned.

I have the same knife. Was my first that I carried everywhere. Still have it, in the garage, and just used it a little while ago.

Always with a knife. Most days I carry a Microtech Ultratech, Inkosi, or 940. They get used pretty hard too...I broke the tip off the Ultratech and they replaced the blade free.

Every time I see it on my keychain, I have to chuckle at the silliness of the color. Imagine using it in the woods and accidentally dropping it. Have fun trying to find your camo knife!

Fortunately, as an "indoorsy" kind of person, I use the knife at home or in the office, where the camo color actually is kind of "anti-camo" when it's placed on a desk or table.

Seriously, the reason I went with camo is that both the red and black Swiss Army knives would always get these gray scuff marks on them from rubbing against the keys on my keychain or maybe the coins in my pocket. Given my OCD personality, I was always wiping the marks off with my fingers. Amazingly, the camo never gets any marks on it. The surface finish seems to be harder than the traditional solid colors.

Yes. 2 actually. A Victorinox money clip with a tiny blade and scissors and a full-size knife. Carried a Kershaw Blackout for many years and recently replaced it with a Kershaw Launch 7 auto.

I just gave on to my Dad for X-Mas but I'm not sure it's the right choice as it's too small for him - he has trouble opening the blades.

Side question. With all the daily carry knives here. How do you sharpen them? Is it a daily ritual to tune up the blade before bed? Is it a more elaborate deal getting the stone and oil out on a weekly basis?

For me, every few months, I sit down with a stone and oil and take care of all the knives in the house. The daily carry gets hit more often with a convenient sharpener that would make most laugh when I think of it.

I hone often with a piece of tungsten (tig welding) and sharpen when needed with a stone.

The sharpest fastest edges ever. Saw a guy sharpening knives this way at a gun show, but he had rigged a jig to hold the blade at perfect angles throughout the process. I just free hand mine and try to stay steady. With patience you can remove nicks out of kitchen blades. I sharpened my hatchet so sharp I was using it as a knife when gutting a dear this season, razor sharp slicing through flesh.

The Amazon belts don't hold their grit long, but they are cheap enough. Nearly all the sharpening mechanisms you see use a 1" belt ad start at $150. I've sharpened tool steel knives down to little 1.5" blades. Work awesome and makes touch up very easy. Quick change belts, included leather strop, makes sharpening very fast and easy.

I'm sure a pro could get a sharper blade, but I can get 98% of what they can in a fraction of the time and cost. The paper test has become boring (but still fun).

My everyday is the benchmade contigo 810. I went with the limited edition with the M390 steel. I am not overly knowledgable about steels but this one sold me with the reviews. I use this knife at work all day everyday and I can go a couple of weeks without sharpening. The M390 does take more work when you do sharpen it because its so hard. The only complaint is that after a year or so the pocket clip is getting loose. I have bent it slightly a couple times and it wont hold shape very well now.

I have a Gerber Paraframe, $20 Home Depot special for everyday carry during the workweek. Use it all the time. Sharpens up pretty nice, too. It's so inexpensive that if I lose it, it's no biggie.

I also have a Buck 110.

I've kept the family's daily carry knives: top is my "new" Tinker; next a similar Swiss Army model that my father took from a German prisoner in World War II; next my maternal grandfather's Barlow and below that the rigging knife he carried in Annapolis in 1907. At left is my paternal grandfather's pen knife.
