Apparently some stores have started receiving some restock tools, now in redesigned black packaging instead of red. Known examples so far include socket sets and wrench sets, which will be in those holiday bins.

A couple newly-known closing announcements in the past week or so:
***
Someone put together a list of all the Kmarts which are currently still open and have NOT yet announced closures, as of yesterday,
here. (This is necessary because the locations list on the official website hasn't been updated since some time last year.) His summary at the end:
" Statistics: Kmart absent in 23 states. 13 states, AZ, CO, DE, IL, MN, MT, NV, OR, TX, WA, WV, WI, WY have only 1 each. So does Guam. 14 states have more than 1 left.
91 Kmarts in US States total.
Puerto Rico has 12, USVI has 4, Guam has 1, so 17 total stores outside of the US.
108 total Kmarts left as of now that are not closed or closing.
States with more than 3 Kmarts:
CA: 20
FL: 8
MD: 5
MA: 4
NJ: 6
NY: 8
PA: 10 "

And someone else made a list of the remaining "mainline" (full-size/mall-type) Sears stores as of a few days ago,
here. Summary:
" I count 176 stores remaining. State breakdown as follows:
Code:
AK 1 AR 1 AZ 2 CA 40 CO 2 CT 2
DE 1 FL 14 GA 3 HI 4 IL 5 LA 1
MA 8 MD 8 ME 2 MI 4 MO 2 NC 7
NH 2 NJ 8 NM 1 NV 1 NY 9 OH 2
PA 7 PR 9 SC 2 TX 14 VA 7 VT 1
WA 4 WI 2
"
(That makes 32 states that still have any full-size Sears stores, so 18 with none. 7 states only have 1 store, 9 states only have 2, and 1 state has 3. So for comparison with Kmart having 7 states with 4+ stores remaining, Sears currently has 15 states with 4+ stores remaining.)

Apparently the reason for CA having such a high number of remaining stores for both Sears and Kmart is that a lot of the company's distribution supply chain originates in CA before getting sent out to other regional warehouses. So although CA has started seeing some closures in the last few rounds too, they are somewhat less expensive to operate.
