My son scored two Craftsman and a True Temper axes at the Habitat Restore this past week for $6. 891d85ca6806476923563f508dc24aff.jpga6c0a323f518a704b7e82202477fa0ab.jpge96c68dcdd1500262abdbd6a2d492eee.jpgdfc1b0ff8ade3606c655c65fb7a8f5db.jpgcd7b1243e698489d393971fd869d9b15.jpg

I did and everything is coming up looking nothing like what I have. I would not be disappointed! I am a blue crab guy (including permanent trap licenses), but oyster knives would be cool. Did you see what they weigh? Post some links.

Google is being particularly stubborn tonight, almost a Mandela Effect in progress, but here:

Here are Friday and Saturdays hauls, from a combination of estate sales, Restores and garage sales, all of which is to say slow and slim pickings in these parts, and nothing looked good enough to drive to. Anyway, without further ado:

A working(!) RCA analog VM, 3/8s socket box someone primered (originally red), Stanley Yankee driver bit, center punch, small metal shears, Imperial Eastman pipe expanders, USA tap wrench, Thorsen speeder, P&C water pump pliers, OTC tappet wrench, USA 9/16 combo, 4 Long C brace bits, 2 power hacksaw blades, and a Craftsman socket rail. Less than $20 altogether. Woo Hoo, I stayed within my budget!

Bought these Petersen Dewitt Vise Grip at the pawn shop for a dollar. They are missing the spring. No model number on them. Anyone recognize them and what their use is. Vise Grips are 7" long and first of this style that I have seen.

Neat grips. I would have to say they are one of the most versatile tools ever made. It looks like some sort of crimping/corrugating jaw.

Those odd pliers look like Proto compound grips. Those things work great!

They did work very nicely tighten some nuts and bolts on a lawnmower.

Madison, nice to see you . I thought of you the other day as I used my Wera screwdrivers to change out the thermostat and DVOM batteries. Love

Yea I dig my set also, to the point I started buying folks wera screwdrivers for gifts!

Too many others to list, But I sure wish That Spintite tray was posted later so I had a shot at a PM! I can fill that sucker!

I almost didnt get it. I was starting to get cold and was fixing to just quit digging. But I thought what the hell I only got two more cabinets to go. They were good size cabinets too. Started shifting through pipe fittings, papers, and boxes till I found that wood with holes in it. When I turned it over I saw the name and thought it was familiar. But like I said, I had no use for it. But I didnt want it to get thrown away.

Around here, the pro's are pretty rigid about starting times. Once I walked in the front door about 15 minutes early and stood right there. Honest, mr sales, I was just getting out of the cold and rain, I'm not shopping! He threw me out anyway. Today, at a sale where they weren't handing out numbers, a group started gathering about 15 minutes before opening (and I was second!) Manager made noises about letting us in early (not that anyone actually asked), but managed to keep busy with setting up unitil official start time. Probably just being diplomatic.
The one time I got in early was quite by accident I showed up the previous day. One of the familly answered the door, told me I was early. Well, gee, sorry about that, but I'm here, you're here, you've got stuff, I've got money, and I only want to see the garage. She let me in and I got a really good deal on a vise - paid asking price and all.

BFBOB, endless estate sale stories here, but you reminded me of a sale a few years ago. I thought it opened at 9 like most. Got there late (so I thought) at 9:45. The door was wide open, and no crowd out front, only one man talking outside on his cell. I walked in, headed straight to the garage and starting making a pile. Found the Snap On ratchet I had seen in photos, and other things. Two workers heard me jingling the tools and came rushing in the garage. One guy says “What are you doing? We’re not open yet”. They looked quite angry and I didn’t know these sellers. I apologized and was a bit embarrassed as I was escorted out. When the sale opened 15 minutes later at 10, there was suddenly a line of people. I went straight back to the garage where one of the workers had left my pile under the table.

Forgot to mentioned that I did stop at a estate sale that was to open at 8am Saturday. I got there around 7:20am and I thought well I might as well walk to the garage . Guy came out and said we wont open till 8, and shut the door. Well I just stood there and played on the phone. Folks started showing up at 7:30am and the sale didnt open til 7:50am. I almost wanted to rub it in his face that they opened the door sooner as I walked in. Didnt buy anything since it was high priced and nothing of interest.

It has been slow around here all winter. Friday, I had a business meeting in the morning, and wasn't able to check out a "moving sale" until noon. An acquaintance told me that big loads of newer tools were carted off in the opening minutes, so it was very picked over by the time I got there. I did get quite a bit of interesting stuff for $50.00.

On a lark, stopped by an antique shop on the way back from lunch with the folks. This happened to be their 25% off weekend, so $28.95 netted me an onyx(?) Telechron desk clock (red reset indicator is dodgy, but the clock runs and keeps good time) and an Austrian silver plate set of sugar tongs that brightened up nicely after a few minutes with some silver polish.

I’ve got a bigger Jet and a little Delta already, but there seems to be a bunch of talk about these Craftsman block grinders here and other places so I’ve wanted to check one out for a long time. I gave $60 for this guy on OfferUp which is probably all the money? My Jet does all I need and the Delta is great for small jobs so I don’t really have a use for it if they aren’t of much value other than a conversation piece.

It’s super original/complete/and in really awesome shape. Date code is Sept 1981. Thing is a beast, can run off 220 or 120 and came with original wheels too.

Only thing it needs is a new plastic lamp shade and sears still sells it! https://www.searspartsdirect.com/product/53rfa0os96-0009-257/id-4971958.

Also picked up the 6” Cman Pro beak jaw adjustable wrench on another OfferUp deal for $6. Can’t pass up USA craftsman stuff I don’t have for single digit pocket money.

Bought from Ebay: SO-380 (1 3/16) code E. Appears to be a rare size. Not a part of the SO set which I got (mostly E code, needs some missing sockets, but eventually will replace couple of Gs with Es)
Payed $13 - agree, probably too much, but given uncommon size decided that it might take me too many years to find it in the wild...

Man you guys are killing it lately!! So much good stuff. I some times wonder if we started a Store with all of our cool finds if we'd be millionaires in a week or two! I have a few neat things to show for the last two weeks! First, we have this small haul from the local flea. It was cold and windy and the first hour I didnt find a thing. I had given up and was bs'n with the reg flea buddies when a usual vendor pulls in late with a pretty good trailer load! I immediately see the Plomb-ish look of the ends of some wrenches in a bucket. then in a small box a little ratchet is sitting right on top ! Keep diggin and finding things! Not bad for $20 Total.

Wrenches:
P&C DBE x 3
MAC Combo 1 1/8

Ratchets:
Speed Master 1/4 missing selector
Tru Fit Milwaukee slider 1/2

Extension:
Snap-ON 3/8

L handle:
no markings 1/4

Crowsfoot:
AN-8506-5 US markings

MAchinist tool:
Browne & Sharpe 335 wire gauge ?

Clamp:
Cheapo but cant leave it there in good shape!

Sat was the Annual Decatur Swap Meet! Its HUGE~! Always tons of killer stuff there. I love to go and dig through people's piles and tables to find the good stuff! Not many go looking for the things we do its mainly about hot rods ect... In the very first row I found a couple of 4 ways on the guys' table. One was Bonney... Score! The next table over I look around and see a couple of old boxes with Ratchet Repair on them. Turns out the guys' wife's parents owned an auto parts store and these were the repair kits out of their old store! Plenty of parts left in side and the staking tools ect! At another table I see a off brand little toolbox and open it. filled with Plomb! and a Snappy breaker... $5 you say? Mine! Al in all a great day followed up with a huge DMDC from the Armadillo Grill! The rawhide hammer came from a mans estate that passed and was being sold. Receive this Bialaddin (English) No. 305 Kero burner from a Guy on the Coleman group today. Its a single and while it's not cherry, it should be a good runner once cleaned up and any repairs made.

I think this is 40's or 50's? Still researching.

attachment.php

This is my other English made Kero Burner: A Tilly with reflector and huge 1 gallon tank. I picked this up maybe 25 years ago in a gold country flea market.

attachment.php

The burner designs are near identical? Both single mantle. The Tilly pic I lifted off the camp trip pics so low res. but I took it so we could work on it. I discovered I'm missing a pre-heater part to both preheat the generator and ignite the mantle...

Thats a neat little lamp Outlaw. I see so many at the fleas and Estate sales but that's something I have no clue about. I need to learn something! How many do you own? I see you pick them up quite a bit. Do you resale them ?

Mostly I don't resell, but I'm going to be selling some of the 2 mantle 220's...

I have about 60, maybe a few more as I know I have a couple more hiding in the garage... that includes way too many Profane lanterns that for the most part I don't want... Most are single mantle. maybe about 10 are 2 mantle.

That's JUST the pressurized lanterns 's I have a bunch of wickie lanterns as well...

Amazing deal. Those old Craftsman are high quality steel and sharpen well. The True Temper on the left looks like a "boy's axe" by the slender handle, one of my favorite sizes of axes. I put a thicker handle on mine...light, sharp and versatile.

You **** on that 1 HP grinder!! Those big ones in that condition are very scarce and fetch big $$$'s.

I'm at work without access to my ****-O-Meter photos, otherwise you would see one set on MAJOR SUCKAGE right now! The entire haul is awesome as a whole and with some rare items and some cool mystery pieces. But are you effin' kidding me with the generic "Ratchet Repair kit" references? It may not announce it loud and clear on the outside of the cardboard boxes, but based on the ratchet numbers on the inside of the boxes, those are *&%^$#@* Plomb ratchet repair kits!

Tru Fit Milwaukee
I already replied on the ratchet thread, but this is a Milwaukee Tool & Forge True-Fit ratchet. They owned the trademark before Lectrolite's "Tru-Fit".

Pliers:
Good looking pliers with a pipe handle? Any clue ?
No, but it's cool. Does the captive pipe-handled chain act like a locking mechanism?

The next table over I look around and see a couple of old boxes with Ratchet Repair on them. Turns out the guys' wife's parents owned an auto parts store and these were the repair kits out of their old store! Plenty of parts left in side and the staking tools etc!
Again, are you playing with us? Or did you not notice the ratchet numbers??!!!!

Speedster:
Big knobbed shorty with straight line bit ?
Valve lapper maybe? Or just a speedster screwdriver. Whatever it ism, I totally would've grabbed it.

Bonney 4 way
Very nice. I replied on Bonney thread, but I'll say again here: I've never seen one 'in the steel' or in pixels.

Super sweet haul Rags. You certainly have an eye for the good and unusual stuff.

The ratchet kits look like the paper Proto box I posted up a while back.

I wouldn't mind seeing some close shots of the L handle. Does it look US made?

I took these pictures Sunday. I don’t think the vendor has really decided whether to keep it for himself or to sell it. He quoted me $200. Too high for me.
I didn’t measure, but I think 3” jaws.
I asked to take these pics and he agreed.
FOFarwell patent.
I was in Dubuque IA a few years ago; really appreciated how friendly and helpful the people I met there were.

I did see the ratchet numbers and thought this has to be PLOMB kits! Maybe it has Proto stickers taped over the original Plomb logo/wording!
The ratchet was pretty cool and old I need to investigate to see how old. First one I have seen. No clue about the pliers, the handle/chain doesn't lock anything into place.
Def had to get the little speedster thing! I shall call it Knobby!
Since finding the old pebbled P&C and the Blackhawk I always check them!

Much jelly about the rebuild kits, such nice!
Thanks! I was pretty excited to find them!

I was pretty excited bout the kits, but it was like 3 min after I got there I had hours of digging to go! Ill post pics in a min. Looks cheapo but its neat I have never seen one!

I tried everything to get the stickers off.. no worky. It is coming off one end and from the font of the end of the word COMPANY I am going to say its Plomb! what do you think ? the other one looks like the sticker is coming up.. may try to get at least the other end off to see if it says PLOMB underneath!
