    Kaz's Random Projects

Is that your tab and slot table? If so how do like it? They are available here at reasonable cost but for some reason, I just cant seem to bring myself to shell out for one even though they cost about what it would for me to buy material to build one (and I wouldn't have to **** around with...

Threaded blind hole in thin, soft stock

If you make the jaws a bit thicker, say 5/16 or 3/8 so you can drill and tap as you describe with a bottoming tap. If you want thinner jaws like 1/8 get some 1/8 ally angle larger than the overhang you need, trim it to size and stick them on with double sided tape. Wont hold them forever, but...

Project Sweat Arrestor (aka helmet dryer)

I made a similar thing for drying my gloves and boot liners après ski after my gloves were stolen from a hotel drying room. Nice work, looks pro.

Pulling Shielded Cable thru 1/2" rigid conduit

Interesting, here, the cable is more often than not pushed through as the conduit is assembled. I'm assuming the code violation is because the cable ends up glued to the conduit?

    climbing wall design help

Hinge it at the bottom, put a couple of same model scissor jacks at the top on either side (these would need to be on a pivot also to maintain geometry). Wind the jacks out to over hang from the wall. The jacks could be operated from underneath with a socket, battery drill, crank handle (the...

Fairing up curves in sawn plywood

Sometimes good old fashioned elbow grease is the best way. Like Bob suggested, a sanding block, start coarse and work to fine. It will take a lot less time than you think it will.

Pulling Shielded Cable thru 1/2" rigid conduit

If my understanding is correct, 1/2" conduit is 1/2" ID. Being only 1/2" you will probably find you cant even pull the old cable out because the conduit was fed onto the cable as it was laid. If you do manage to pull the cable out with a draw string attached, it wont be a very big string...

    climbing wall design help

OK, I think I have an idea what you are trying to do, maybe? Sketchy.. You will end up with a lot of dynamic load on the static pulley supports. In the dropped position it will probably need some means of pinning the lower section to stop it moving as you move about on it. Of course I could...

    Kenfab HQ (Australia)

I currently have a 30MBit service. The original concept of fibre to the prem was solid in concept, and future proofed Australia for a good number of years to come, at the point they are at now, where NBN are re-laying copper cable you just have to shake your head. But this a garage thread...

    Kenfab HQ (Australia)

Scotch locks are sized 040 (.4mm2 conductor), 050 (.5mm2), 064 (.64mm2), and 090 (.9mm2). They are only designed to take conductors of the same size. They need to be crushed with parallel jaw pliers or the special tool, which are just parallel jaw pliers with 3M on the handle (but they do have...

    Another Aussie backyard shed...

It lives in Taswegia now, I sold it middle of last year. Like all forms of motorsport, Vee's (despite being an entry level control formula) are a case of no substitute for cubic dollars if you want to be competitive.

If you want more freebie I have a couple of wide 5 centres that have been welded into 13" rims. Had intended to use them for transport rims on the Formula Vee, have since sold the Vee and don't need them. I'm in the northern burbs, drop me a PM if you're interested. Currently looking at my...

How to cut 6" PVC in half lengthwise?

Last time I had to do that, I marked the two lines to cut and after much procrastination ended up just cutting it with a panel saw by hand one side at a time. Then I laid out a length of sanding belt on the bench and used that to tidy the two halves up.

    Press Brake Die Holder

Think about the forces involved.. In that video the cut is all the way through, you want to make a cut that wont go full thickness. It is more than probable that the blade will become bound up by the chips and you will have an 11" long missile of 2" square stock.

    Press Brake Die Holder

The idea of using a hand held saw is at best marginal, and using a table saw is just plain dangerous. You are attempting a milling operation, please consider spending the small amount of money it would cost to have a machine shop profile out the steel safely on a machine that is designed for...
