    Prentiss vise crack...

I have a Prentiss Bulldog 4" vise with 2 small cracks, as shown- it appears the prior owner may have been using the top and/or slide as an anvil. Question is, would you still use this vise? The cracks do not telegraph beyond the thickness of the rear piece of casting in both cases. I clamped a...

3-1/2" vs 5-1/2" vise- which is better?

I have too many vises- something has to go. Which vise would you pick between the 2 I already have- an old Morgan Chicago, or a newer made-in-Usa Craftsman. How important is jaw width alone, if both vises are relatively of the same duty rating? Thanks.

    can this vise be saved?

I picked up an old, made in USA, Craftsman 3-1/2" vise today, for scrap value. It appears it was rearended by a truck, or something! Hahahaa. Anyways, it actually works ok from almost closed to 3" open, then it binds up too much and jams. It appears that the U-channel is bent. Is there any way...

    painted or naked vise?

After removing most of the paint off my newest old vise, it actually looks pretty good with no paint! At the risk of a paint failure, is it better to leave the vise unpainted? I am using it as my main vise. Do you coat the vise with oil or some other sealer?

I would like to cut a few inches off each side of a vise stand, including the pieces of angle iron. It is 1/4" plate steel. I have a hack saw, angle grinder, circular saw with metal blades, and a sawsall. I need to make two 8" long cuts. Is there any possible way I will be able to make these...

    cl vise and stand...

so, I picked up this Morgan #87, combo vise with 3-1/2" jaws, mounted on a brake drum stand. It seems very solid, and works great. I plan to hit it with some wd40 to see if it looks ok, as is. Anyone know if orange is an original color? What do you guys think?

    value of a Morgan vise?

3-1/2" wide jaws, no cracks, rotating base, works fine, he says. It is missing 1 pipe jaw which fits under the main jaws. Mounted on a column/ brake drum. Here it is, on the right side of pic. Thanks.

    roller cabinet lock question-

I got an older Homak roller cabinet the other day off CL, missing keys and 1 set of slides. My question: is there any way to drill the lock to make it usable to open and close, with say a screwdriver? It is a tubular lock. I only use the locks if moving the cabinet, to keep the drawers from...

    whats a Worth vise...worth?

never heard of this brand, so I hope it is worth at least $4.00! Seems solid, and works great, just has a funky paint job that I can fix in a few minutes. It has 3-1/2" jaws. Here is a beforer and after pic, for now.

    old Waterloo roller from CL

I picked up this old Waterloo roller a couple of days ago from CL. A few of you guys correctly IDd the box as an early 70s model- it is stamped, "Made in USA 12/71." It is built like a brick **** house! Slides still work great, no dents, just some issues you can see in the middle of the chest-...

    Craftsman Industrial tool cart value

saw this on CL and was wondering if you guys have any ideas about this box. It appears to be an older Cman industrial roller cabinet, about 8 years old. It is much heavier than the usual boxes they sell, and is 36" wide, 21" deep and 43" tall. It also has a cable actuated lock with a tubular...

    double-ended torx bits?

bought this 4-in-1 (or sometimes called 6-in1) torx driver at an estate sale. The bits apparently do not come from Sears, or anywhere else that I can find. I am looking for a t-20 that will fit this handle. Any ideas where these bits come from? The guy at Sears suggested I get an Ouija board and...
