Roll up garage door seal is working for me….

For those who have a rollup door and are looking to “seal” the sides., see videos below. Yes, I know you can buy the brushes that you screw to the outside of the building and cost about $100 per door. In my case for two doors, it would’ve been about $190. I went to my local fabric shop and...

Can someone confirm these #'s for a beam?

Just wanted to confirm these #'s I got online. Im about to pull the trigger on a W8x18 beam. Beam will be supported on both ends with 7" square tubing 1/4" walls. Beam is 17' long. The pictures show a 1000lb load, 2' wide sitting in the middle of the beam from 7'6"-9'6" (trolley width)

    Horizontal Saw

I recently acquired this Grizzly saw. For the life of me I can’t get the blade to cut straight. I either get a wavy cut or a slanted cut. The bigger the material the more pronounced it is. Can anyone offer any tips on how to adjust the eccentric bushing?

    Bracing for uprights

Based on the picture below, would I be better off going with a longer or shorter bracing? Note the shorter bracing will give me more of the 45 deg angle to the horizontal and vertical surfaces. Going with a longer bracing does not. Ive only got 20"x20" of weldable surfaces to play with. These...

I Beam as as a vertical upright?

Edit. I was able to source out some 7” square tubing yesterday. Bigger than what I need, yes. But for the price it was a no brainer. When I thought I came across some square tubing on marketplace, it turned out being sold. Original plan was to go with 5" square tubing, 1/4" walls for my...

Square tube or SCH 40 round?

Came across this SCH 40 tubing. I’m going to be building a gantry crane and I’m trying to decide if 5” SCH 40 tube is just as strong as 5” square tube assuming both have 1/4” walls? This would be the upright posts on both ends.

    Hanging metal siding inside garage

Just wanted you guys to see what you think about my idea or if there's a different approach that I could possibly take. Got the building spray foamed a few weeks ago and they gave me a lot more than what I paid for. I have approximately one to 2 inches of foam covering the upright post, and...

    Ground wire…

Just recently found out that if your sub panel box for a detached metal garage has a certain amount of “ohms” you need a second ground rod. I saw where folks just install the second rod and don’t even try to get an ohm reading. With that being said, can you tie into the existing ground wire...

How are you attaching a mounting plate for a torsion spring on a sectional garage door to use in one of these tubular buildings? OR are you using extension springs?

Got me some Spray Foam..... What a mess!

Got my building spray foamed yesterday. I paid for 2" everywhere, but this crew no doubt gave me much much more than that. The tubing is 2.5". 90% of the foam comes past it about 1 - 1.5" easily. The roof is packed full of foam! Same 2.5" tubing, + 1" for the purlin.. No doubt there is minimum...

    Spray foam and vents?

I installed 3 of these vents in my garage to help with air circulation along with my exhaust fan. Next week I’m getting the garage spray foamed and I’m 90% sure I’ll be installing a mini split in the future. Ideas I’m considering… and open to others as well. Leave the vents in place and...

    2” spray foam or 3”?

Building is getting spray foamed next Friday. The contractor told me he can spray an extra inch on the roof for $1.15 per square foot. This will give me 3” instead of 2”. That’ll be an extra $1200. Is that 1 inch of extra foam worth it or no? I’m already getting 2” on roof and walls. Im in...

    Mini Split Warranty?

Anyone buy a Mini off of Amazon and add the product protection plan? Seems like it covers everything and there's no money out of pocket. I'm sure one service call would more than pay for itself with the price of the protection plan. I was looking at Daikin warranty, and if I read their warranty...

    AC Benefit?

If the insulation in your garage allows your garage to maintain what the ambient temperature is outside, is that a good indication that your garage could benefit from a air conditioner unit?

insulation and radiant barrier working so far

About 90% done. What a ***** this project is. Being quoted over $6k for spray foam, I’ll Gladly spend a few weekends and save over $4500 Thank god for a scissor lift rental. Without it, no doubt I would have fallen 15’ to the ground :ROFLMAO: Anyways, I installed a radiant barrier directly...

Close off holes or leave open? Radiant barrier question.

The radiant barrier will be here tomorrow. Do I need to seal up the corners of my building and every where else outside air infiltrates from with foam or leave the ridge holes open? I’m curious to know if leaving them open and having “airflow” between the radiant barrier and metal siding is a...

Am I on the right track? Louvers & Fan

Looking for input on this idea. Shop is about 930 sf with 12' walls. The plan is to install an exhaust fan on the backside of the building and on the front side install three 12" x 36" aluminum louvers about a foot off the ground for the air intake. Im thinking this should give me plenty of...

    Bit Sharpener

Looking for a drill bit sharpener, that will be used. Probably a handful times a year. I came across this one from the drill doctor. Seems like it's very basic and all I need to do is sharpen drill bits and nothing more. Anyone have any reviews on this?
