    oil burner t-stat location

The best place is away from the warm air supply. It needs to sense the coolest air in your garage. And, if mounted on a wall, be sure that any hole where the thermostat wire comes through, is sealed up. If you don't, it could sense the air behind it, and not the room temperature.

    Let's talk.... microwaves?

I have a 1987 Samsung microwave that I have in my garage. I bought it new and it's still works great. It only has a mechanical knob to turn, with a timer. No buttons to malfunction

    2019 Lowe's deals/sales/clearance thread

I wonder how you find these clearance markdowns. I go online to our Lowes store and it doesn't show any of these items marked down. (just the regular price) What is the trick to finding them?

    Compressor help

You might want to ask a motor shop in your area what it would cost to have the motor rewound and with new bearings. If it was me, that's what I would do. A new 5 hp 3 phase motor can be expensive.

Small commercial building exhaust fan help !

To make your installation simple and easy, why not install a couple of exhaust fans in a wall or window. That way, you won't have to have to cut openings in the roof, and maybe cause a roof leak. If you exhaust out about 2000 cfm, then you will need openings on the other side of the building...

    Grounding Sub Panel (Non-Neutral plugs)

You definitely need to separate the neutral buss bar from the ground bar in your sub panel.. Yes, the 4 grounds should be pulled off of the neutral bar. If there is a ground connector on the neutral bar, going to the panel box, you need to remove it.

    Radiant barrier with metal roof.

I used the perforated kind that I stapled to the trusses, (bottom of top chord), so that there is room between the bottom of roof and top of the radiant barrier for the hot air to travel up to the ridge. At the ridge vent or at an off-ridge vent the hot air will vent to the outside. It works...

    Issue with a 4' flourescent T8 fixture

My garage has several of these fixtures with 2 bulbs each, attached to the ceiling. Now, 1 fixture has a flickering bulb. I replaced it, but still flickered. Then replaced both bulbs and still flickering. Is the ballast bad? Should I replace the fixture with a T8 LED fixture, or what? I...

    Opinions needed - insulation

To upgrade to R-30, Yes, definitely. But, not to have it foamed. That's REALLY expensive. Also, check with the foam contractor about whether the foam is combustible. Some building departments won't allow it unless it is treated after foamed, with a chemical to make it non-combustible. I saw...

Filters at AC return vs Air Handler

Tommy is right. The squirrel cage fans are not positive displacement pumps. And, if they don't get air in them to push out, then they draw less amperage, not more, because they are doing less work.

How to size flex duct for returns

A larger size is good because it will be quieter. I would replace the 3 12" with 14" returns and leave the other one at 14" each. I would use either 20x20 or 20x25 filter back grilles. Those filter sizes are very common, so they are easy to find. I am a retired A/C contractor.
