    Found a grinder

Just thought I'd check if this seems like a good price before I drive the 180 miles each way to get it. $350 with cast iron base. It's an 8107W Baldor 8" 3/4 hp. Said to be in good shape.

    Pittsburgh sockets

I bought a set of these a while back to throw into the truck and haven't looked at them since. Yesterday I decided to disassemble a junked John Deere garden tractor and thought I'd see if they were any good. I would up using every size in the set and because it was going to scrap I used an...

    Quality bench grinder

I have an eight inch Wissota grinder that I love but have had no luck finding another. I need another eight inch grinder. How do the Jet and Baldors compare to the Wissota?

    build a special vise

I just saw these in a Facebook ad. If anyone is thinking about building special tooling, here are acme threaded rods and nuts for $6.25 each. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/2412939319004426

    grinder conversion

I have a double ended motor with built in switch. I'd like to turn it into a wire brush and nonwoven abrasive grinder. Does anyone know of a shaft clamp with exterior threads to use as an outer flange? The inner flange can just be a shaft collar.

    Evapo-rust on the cheap

The MDS for Evapo-rust only lists "chelating agent" and less than 1% detergent plus water. Has anyone tried EDTA as a substitute? It would be extremely cheap by comparison and there are only a few chelating agents in existance.

    Strange pliers

I've had these in the bottom of my box for unknown years. I have no idea how I came by them but they are unlike anything I've seen elsewhere. Notice that they are fully closed and only the tips touch. I'm pretty sure they were made that way. Both jaws are serrated. What might these have...

my favorite vise grip is not Peterson

I've been using this vise grip for a long time without the damn lever ever popping out. It is fastened at both ends. It also has greater gripping power than the standard type. If I could find them I'd buy one in every configuration possible. It's a Gripso made in San Francisco. I got it...

    grinder vibration

I now have three Craftsman block grinders. All three have the same slight vibration with the wheels removed. I am assuming this is normal for these grinders. Has anyone been successful at fully removing the vibration? I'm talking about getting them as smooth as my Wissotas. That is you can't...

    Yost ADI review

I ordered the Yost FSV-5 a few weeks ago and received the ADI. I was going to return it but found out the FSV has not been available for a while so I went ahead and mounted it. First, the clamping force is much greater than my Wilton machinist 5". In addition, there is virtually no slop in...

    Block grinder label

I see a lot of Craftsman block grinders restored to new condition including the label. How does one restore a label like that? I found a totally complete 1/3 hp at an estate sale and after replacing and balancing the wheel I repainted but the label still looks like ****.

    corrosion inhibitor

Does anyone know what the active ingredient in Zerust is? It works OK but gets pretty expensive for the number and replacement schedule I have.

    Tool for inner dual

The first time I had a flat on the inside dual tire I was unable to remove the wheel so I drove on to a truck stop where two guys pulled while a third beat the hell out of the rim from the inside. After that I built my own three jaw puller to do the job and left it in the truck. I doubt the...

    Silca T-ratchet

Has anyone tried this tool in a real world environment? I've been looking for a T-handle 1/4" ratchet and most of them look like garbage. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0094KQMA4/?tag=atomicindus08-20 This is not cheap but if it is made well it might be worth every penny. It is advertised for...

    Cracking Craftsman

Yesterday I cracked two more USA made Craftsman sockets. This has been happening a lot since I have started using more metric. My SAE are SK and I've never had a problem with them. Is this common or did I just get a bad set? This set is about 35 years old.

    T handle ratchet

I need a T handle 1/4" drive ratchet. Hazet makes one but it has square edges. Not something I want to be putting a lot of torque on with my hands. Snap-on makes one but it runs a ridiculous price. Has anyone tried the Tiny Bone. It looks like just the right thing but it also looks really...

    metric deep well Tekton

I find myself in need of a new set of metric deep well sockets. Looking at Tekton I see an absolutely amazing price vs quality. Of course everything on the website is out of stock but I can wait. My question is are these sockets stamped with the size or etched. If etched then it is a deal...

    Yet another whatsit

I found this in a box of tools the neighbor set out for free. The outer sleeve screws on to the internally threaded nose and locks it to the core. Other than that , nothing is free to move. Other than a reference to being a key, I am lost.
