    How to find drain pipe

My dad calls that "witching". He had their well "witched" 40+ years ago by someone. He said he watched the guy with his own eyes and that was exactly where the water was. I've never seen it done.

Contractor broke water line... who's liable?

Me either. 811 will mark the main line and the meter, but everything from the meter to the house is on the homeowner. I would think the contractors insurance would cover something like this?

Rivnut Tool - Is the Astro 1442 Still The Hotness?

I had to grind off and install new rivnuts on my Teryx4 sxs last weekend. There aren't to many thing I loathe more than rivnuts! I have a cheap harbor freight tool and didn't even bother using it because it's to hard to use when laying under the SXS trying to install new nuts into the frame...

    Polisher Recommendation

I've had a Meguiar's dual action polisher (made by Porter Cable) for 15+ years. It's a great tool with the right selection of pads and products. Check out https://www.autogeek.net. They carry a lot of different brands and offer package deals and can probably give you recommendations on your...

Intermatic time switch: mechanical vs electronic

I bought a couple Intermatic digital timers for our 2 water heaters and really like them. They are easy to program, easy to manually override if necessary, and offer plenty of scheduling options.

Tractor/equipment for mowing and various shop uses?

My Kubota B3200 has R4 industrial tires and it's pretty gentle on the yard and still provides good enough traction for various tractor duties. Some of the B-Series have mid-mount PTO allowing a belly mower to be installed. I mow about 4 acres and use a Toro Z-Master 60" cut. I can't imagine...

Critique My 40x60 Pole Barn Build! -Pictures Included

I agree. I have a 32' x 64' and that's a big shop. We were originally planning to put it up closer to the house, but decided against it. I'm glad we pushed it farther away (and more out of sight). I went with 12' wide doors and it makes backing in trailers so much nicer.

    Contractor Sub Question

I acted as the GC on our home addition/remodel recently. Our bank would give us draws to pay contractors direct. Whenever I wrote them a check, they picked it up personally from me, and at the same time they completed two bank forms stating they'd been paid in full for all work/material...

Help a noob wire a detached garage

I had a rough in wiring inspection done on my house before I had it spray foamed. After the rough in was approved, we had it spray foamed. I completed all the wiring by installing light fixtures, electrical outlets, etc and then had a final electrical inspection done. I had to pay $70 for...

What you wish you would have done or would love to do to your Shop

Bigger of course, but I'm land locked so that really isn't an option. My biggest regret has been not spray foaming it when I had it built. I should have bit the bullet and just did it then. :( The next one will be spray foamed!

Is it worth building now? Construction materials cost.

I'm down the road from you in Mercer County and paid about $20 per sq/ft in 2019 when I had my shop built.

    Reclaimed wood fireplace mantle

I bought 1/2" x 16 lag bolts from Fastenal, screwed them into the studs, and then cut the heads off. I measured and drilled the holes into the back of the mantle and then installed with epoxy to make sure it stayed put.

Run PEX for future hose spigot

This is the ticket! I ran a hot & cold Woodford spigot at my house and absolutely love it. I have one at the shop as well, but currently don't have a source for hot water. That might change in the future :)
