Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT Seven year itch is finally getting scratched

After buying my home in 2016, I made plans to add on to the garage. It was a compromise with my wife since she preferred the floor plan of the house we bought, while I preferred the house with the 5 car garage and pool that we didn’t buy. Fast forward through a job loss and 9 months out of...

Threshold problem- EIFS with prehung door

Actually check that- the thickness of the curb prevents 180° impossible. But yes, flush with finished drywall depth would leave around an inch to cover outside.

Threshold problem- EIFS with prehung door

Yes it’s an in swing door. If it’s back far enough to swing 180° then I’ll have about an inch of jamb extension to make on the outside.

Threshold problem- EIFS with prehung door

Gotcha that makes sense. The door on the north side of the building should hold up well with the joint in the jamb, but I will have to pay attention to how it does on the south side with the intense sun and whatever water we get. Hell it might even be so close that I can just put a good bead of...

Threshold problem- EIFS with prehung door

So would that require mortar under the sill to support it? Or will it survive hanging out that 5/8” or so?

Threshold problem- EIFS with prehung door

Hi all. Can’t find a suitable answer on the webs so hopefully some helpful insight from you all will solve this. New shop has 2x6” walls with 1-3/8” EIFS (foam and stucco). This requires installation of a stop around door openings for the foam to **** against and for nailing on the trim board...

Wilton C3 Vise Restoration (not your typical refresh!)

Thanks for checking it out. I've invested quite a bit in tooling and time to learn this. I started out a few years ago knowing nothing but a bit of carpentry and have worked at it to learn metalworking. Fortunately the shop is about 80%+ self-funded: bringing in machining jobs and selling...

Wilton C3 Vise Restoration (not your typical refresh!)

It's usually not too bad. It helps to grind on the outside end of each pin to make sure it's smaller than the hole, then punch it through into the nut. At that point I'll use a chisel from the open end of the vise (after popping off the cap) to bend the end of the pin so it kinda folds into the...

Wilton C3 Vise Restoration (not your typical refresh!)

All in from start to finish I'd guess I have 20 hours in it spread out over a few weeks. Sometimes it makes sense to just replace a broken base, but the way this one was damaged I thought it was worth repairing. My buddy paid me a fair price- I made a few dollars and he got it for cheaper than...

Wilton C3 Vise Restoration (not your typical refresh!)

Customer preference. My buddy makes a lot of parts out of brass, so I suppose there won’t be a transfer of dissimilar materials when he holds them in the jaws. Aluminum would certainly have been a lot cheaper.

Wilton C3 Vise Restoration (not your typical refresh!)

Thanks! He's very happy with it. He's going to make a cool s-shaped stand for it with his plasma table. Should be a unique, fancy final product.

Wilton C3 Vise Restoration (not your typical refresh!)

Thanks very much. I've done many vises that I wouldn't upload here since they are a dime a dozen, but felt this one was worth sharing. I've only done one other C3 but this one got a much more comprehensive job done to it. Shared it on my Instagram, but forums are more permanent I think.

Thanks! Thank you, the repair came out pretty nice I think.

Wilton C3 Vise Restoration (not your typical refresh!)

Finally ready to go back together. My friend didn't want it painted, so I cooked it with the weed burner, and applied boiled linseed oil for a nice sheen and some protection from rust. Made some new jaws out of brass (that's $88 worth of material!) and installed them onto the castings. All...

Wilton C3 Vise Restoration (not your typical refresh!)

Figured there would be some interest in seeing a rarer Wilton rebuild. This C3 was not heavily used and when I found it, it was in good shape other than a broken foot on the base ring and a bad paint job. It sat for quite a while in my garage while I worked on many other things, but a friend...

My new 3,500 lb cast iron precision work table

No need to forgive you for not knowing something. A granite plate is typically used to inspect parts as a last step before they go out the door. In modern precision machine shops a CMM (coordinate measuring machine- a computer controlled measuring machine) is used which uses a precision granite...

My new 3,500 lb cast iron precision work table

Oh wow that would be a dream come true. I think if I had the choice I'd take a scraping class with them, but learning their method for jig grinding would be amazing. Indeed they are. I specifically mentioned TIG welding- very controlled, clean, and no massive heat input through the workpiece...

My new 3,500 lb cast iron precision work table

Lol well, yeah ok, it was issued in 2019 and effective for about half of 2020. Sheesh! Lol

My new 3,500 lb cast iron precision work table

I could certainly live without it, but I'd been looking for a cast iron table for a long time and I won't miss any mortgage payments over buying this so I figured why not. With the price of new materials skyrocketing I wouldn't have done much better getting a 1" thick steel plate Blanchard...
