That's going to be nice Dan. You are doing a fantastic job. I'd suggest you put up some thin plastic poly sheeting, Visqueen, temporarily on the walls before they pour the concrete. That way you won't end up with concrete splashed up on your columns, girts and insulation board. I just used...

    2 post lift in 24x30

I originally had our Rotary 2 post in a 14 foot wide garage. You don't have to have 2 ft from the side wall. Currently the lift is in our barn and the bay width is 19' which is great.. but in no way a necessity. The size of the vehicle in the "non lift bay" of the garage will make all the...

Slab Edge Insulation Detail for pole barn

Seems extremely over complicated for little, if any, real advantage. Lot's of buried lumber, lot's of insect entry points, lot's of labor to install all the lumber..... which when I see folks doing such things I can't help but ask.... "Why didn't / don't you just build a stick building? "

Slab Edge Insulation Detail for pole barn

Curious as to why the slab is going to the inside of the posts? :headscrat Run the concrete to the outside of the posts and eliminate the horizontal 2x8's. Why bury wood in the ground if you don't have to? Also this eliminates the pathway for critters to bore through the wood and access the...

    Adding shed gable vents

Most gable vents are external mount and the louvers stick back into the attic a few inches. To leave the existing gable truss center 2x4 support you would have to make a window box structure on the outside of the home that sticks out a few inches. Might not be an issue.. but then again, might...

    Allen wrenches that aren't garbage?

MacTools Most all of my tools are Craftsman, bought in the early 1980's. I've got a set of MacTools allen wrenches that a guy gave me about 20 years ago. They have a convenient plastic storage device that each one slides into. Everyone is still there and none are broken. They're great.

    Lockable power options for lift

I installed a lockable kill switch on my Rotary lift. If you lift the STOP paddle you can insert a lock that disables the START switch. The other big advantage of this switch is the momentary switch that is supplied with most lifts have been known to sometimes fail... in the on position. This...

Which is best marble tile or wooden floors?

Holy Thread Resurrection! If you like the look of wood... keep it on cabinets and trim, use something more durable for flooring. Our previous home had wood floors... they were beautiful but maintenance and fragility makes them something I'll avoid in the future. Also it's ability to hold up...

    Concrete Prep

I wouldn't do the H shape. You've created a pathway for burrowing animals and varmints to get into the building. Leave the bottom bookshelf girt off. Pour the concrete. Then install the bookshelf girt a couple inches above the concrete so the slab can move relative to the building.

    Bookshelf Girt - 2x6 or 2x8

Cover the opening along the bottom.... let the blown in insulation fill the void... or stuff batt insulation into that area to kind of plug it up. Neither is a really good option when dealing with blown in insulation. I hate blown in insulation in an attic.... that stuff is a mess to deal...

Condensation from the hood drips onto the water heater... and it rusts the water heater.

    Bookshelf Girt - 2x6 or 2x8

So you are talking about blown in insulation getting into the overhang area of the soffit? Does your building have gable vents or a ridge vent? Does it have vented soffit panels? If the answer is yes you need insulation baffles to allow air to flow into the soffit, through the baffles and out...

Atlas 2 post lift anchor spacing too close?

Agreed. This is a very simple concept, and you are failing to grasp it. See the "Concrete Anchor Guide" below. Epoxy anchors require very little torque on the hex nuts, 20 ft-lbs for 3/4" anchors. Mechanical anchors require a lot of torque on the hex nuts, 180 ft-lbs for 3/4" anchors. Once...
