My Asian fusion machine vise refurb.

I know it's not the Holy Grail vises but for a $10 CL score it was worth a few hours to clean it up and it'll be fine for what I need. Before: After:

    XY Vise

Yup, that's what I figured soon as I found that the bolts and screws were metric. Still worth the $10 it cost me. :deathmeta

    XY Vise

I plucked this little ditty off CL this morning for cheap as cheap could be. I know it's not a top tier precision unit but it's solid and it locks down tight. Compared to what I've been using for the last 10 years or so it's definitely a step up. Disassembly for refurb is already done and parts...

I rattle canned one of my motorcycles with that same color blue. Came out great.

    paint prep

Blasting is the way to go. It give the primer a good surface to stick to so the paint doesn't slide off. Remember that the finish is in the prep.

Where do you mount power switches on vintage tools?

In my case that was not a concern as the arbor, motor and switch were not and an original machine having any collector value. It was at some time a collection of random parts assembled for a particular purpose. The fact that it was repainted with non factory original paint, re-belted and new...

Heads Up! Incredible old gas station tool cabinet

Hmmm, I wonder if maybe the seller sensed blood in the water, took down the ad and we'll see it back up in two weeks at twice the price. Had it happen to me a couple of times.

Where do you mount power switches on vintage tools?

The motor on this General grinder was a straight plug in. When I did the refurb I added the separate box and switch.

    Wooden Tool Chest question

Wow, thanks for that memory. I remember back in the 70's I had two of those Pachmayr Super Deluxe boxes. One in the original brown and a later model in black. Sturdy boxes they were. And who could ever forget how good they smelled inside.

How to mount mount stuff on metal studs and concrete block?

Expanding anchors or tapcons for the block walls and sheet metal screws for the metal studs. The coarser the screw the tighter the grip.

Another "what is it" and "who made it" questions

Try squirting some lemon juice on the lettering. It might help bring them up. We used to do it to try and raise serial numbers on stolen guns.

    2019 Garage Sale Thread

My $5 score. I stopped by the every Sunday flee market at the VFW this morning and snatched these four items for a fin. I know, not a mega score but it made me smile. Gotta be worth 3 or 4 times what I paid anyway and I didn't already have three out of the four. Can anybody tell me the...

Craftsman Block motor Bench Grinders - What's the Fuss (with resource information)

I welded this one up from a piece of angle iron for small stuff. Then I sprayed it with two medium coats and three heavy coats of Rustoleum Enamel and it's been fine for about three years now.

Were sliding T-handles ever a good idea?

I used to have one but don't know whatever happened to it.

    Wooden Tool Chest question

Several years ago I saw this picture posted in one of the threads here. It was in with a group of pics and there was no info on it. Does anyone know anything about this box, like who made it, was it a production piece or a one-off? Where could I find one of these and what would a value be...
