How big would this garage/building need to be?

Use something like this: http://www.grizzly.com/workshopplanner Under miscellaneous, you can make squares/rectangles of any size. Make rectangles for everything you want to store inside. There are also symbols for many tools and other equipment. Space everything apart far enough for access and...

What's on your walls? Neat storage ideas!

It is the downside of craigslist - well, that and some of the idiots (buyers or sellers) you have to deal with. I mostly find stuff by searches than by going through the categories themselves. The downside of that is you don't see things that you weren't exactly searching for - although my SO...

What's on your walls? Neat storage ideas!

I've found these cabinets on craigslist. They're overhead storage cabinets from office cubicle systems that are similar to the old "barrister" bookcases. I particularly like that the doors slide back into the unit so that you can leave them open without having the door there where you can run...

Building shop storage from surplus office furniture

Yep, office furniture can provide some durable storage units. I put together a storage wall along the back of my woodshop out of a bunch of file cabinets from a modular desk system and painted them with Hammerite. The office was just throwing them out.

    Welding Fume extraction set up.

Although welding respirators can be N95, not all N95 respirators are suitable for welding. A good resource is 3M's Welding Respirator brochure: http://multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/1028293O/respirators-for-welding-brochure-70-0716-7146-8.pdf

    Garage wall is bowing outward

Was the garage added to the house? Or were they built together? Do you have the construction drawings for the house/garage? Trying to assess the situation over the internet isn't going to do much good. You need someone with experience to assess it in person. Did the helical pier people have a...

    Rebuilding a wall, novice question

Ummm... I think that's what I said... ;) :spit: Either toenail them or use a Simpson rafter tie like this: However, it looks like you're storing things up there. Depending on how much you're putting up there and the weights involved, 2x6s may not be enough.

    Rebuilding a wall, novice question

The door fits behind the framed opening. Basically, you have the wall framing, the 2x6s fastened to the back of the wall, and then the track fastens to the 2x6s. That way it can slide past the wall when it opens. If it was "in" the opening, it would have to move back out of the opening and then...

    Rebuilding a wall, novice question

Typically you oversize the opening and then use shims to install the door casing so that you can adjust the door casing for plumb and thickness. You could do it exact, but there is more chance that something will be out of alignment and you'll have more trouble making the installation. That...

    The Eastwood QST-30/60

The technology of a screw compressor isn't patented, but the specific design that Eastwood has put together likely is. The problem is that so many factories in China just duplicate other things. Rather than doing the R&D to make a product, they just buy someone else's, disassemble it, and copy...

    The Eastwood QST-30/60

Basically by allowing companies like Eastwood to do the R&D and then copying it and selling it for less. If I spend $100K developing a product and then have to recoup that cost along with the cost of manufacturing, someone who has no R&D cost, just manufacturing cost, can sell it for less money...

    The Eastwood QST-30/60

3-phase is completely different from 240V and is usually a commercial service. Expect to pay not only for the installation but for commercial electric rates.

    The Eastwood QST-30/60

My current compressor is a QT-5 80 gallon twin-stage delivering 17.2 cfm @ 175 psi. I've got a Skat 960 blast cabinet and that has the QT cycling pretty frequently. I've also got HVLP spray guns in the 13 to 15 cfm range that would be an issue. I'm sure that the reduced noise of the QST is a...
