Do you lock your toolbox at home?

My toolboxes are locked. One key is locked in the other box. The box key is attached to my house keys. My spare keys are in a safe. The boxes are blocked in by a pickup truck. Garage is always locked, has internet, and has video cams that email me on movement. I will be adding Simplisafe...

    The Milwaukee addiction thread! :)

This doesn't include my car stuff which is a m12 2 speed screwdriver, 3/8" fuel impact wrench, 1/2" fuel impact wrench. I also have outdoor stuff. I really want the underhood light & the surge impact driver. Really impressed by the quality of the entire product line.

    Show your new tool arrivals

The Honda snowblower was bought at the closest, outdoor-equipment dealer to me. Due to this forum, I would never buy it at a big box store even if it may be the same. It shipped from Honda in GA and says American Honda all over the box and manual. I have no clue where the engine was built...

    Show your new tool arrivals

Expensive...yes. Worth every penny...absolutely. Cuts through the city snow drift with no resistance. I am shocked at the quality of the build- and it takes up very little garage space. Win-Win:rocker:

Detached 30x38 question about center beam

Trusses are best if you don’t ever plan to change them. If one lvl beam or a steel is too big, you can look at a flitch beam. A flitch beam is more manageable. You take lvl and sandwich steel between them. Much thinner and way easier. You bolt them together in place. If you guys don’t...

Detached 30x38 question about center beam

Welcome to Garage Journal. I am not nearly as experienced with most of the guys here- but I will say this- It is much cheaper to address it now. My issue- dad’s was done with a ridge board instead of a ridge beam. If the terms are incorrect, I apologize. But this means that the main garage...

    Garage door monitor

I am planning to upgrade to a smart garage door opener later on. For now, I have a webcam pointed at all my doors. When any door opens, I get an email plus I can remote in with any computer or phone.

    Cheap Generator saved my bacon

Yup. Hurricane Sandy taught us that lesson. Sump pump is no good without electricity. We have a battery back-up sump pump. We also have a big Craftsman generator. May pick up a smaller Honda generator for portability. I also have been lusting over the E2000i.

HVAC/R classes at local trade school?

In NJ, we have vocational high schools that offer that. I would love to take advantage of it, but the hours make it impossible if you work full-time. They also offer one for electrical and another for plumbing. They are apprentice programs and part of the learning hours are in-the-field. The...

    Fixture for drilling bolt heads

If you don't have a drill press, then I would invest in a safety wire jig. Many people make them. Get the one that has hollow bolts for precision work.

What's with all the tool polishers/collectors?

I embrace the term tool polisher. Thanks for the compliment. Most of tools are pristine and used. I'm actually working on my brother's motorcycle and tomorrow I will help out a friend with his $80k car. I'm am very neat and take my time. Don't be surprised if what you lend me comes back...

Selling a home with a nice garage

Remember your realtor is there to sell- usually as quick as possible. The realtor doesn't want to sit on the property waiting for the perfect buyer. As far as the lucky to get 50% back- depends on how much money was spent. If you did a lot of the work yourself- you can easily recoup a lot...

    GFCI Breaker

Is it possible that there is another GFCI that has tripped? The GFCIs have no power- if the line wires are also showing no power than it could be a branched GFCI that is upstream.

FYI A not unusual fire cause!

He is talking about the stud to the left. If you look, it looks like some sheetrock is being held down by a screw. The picture is very fuzzy. But if that is a screw, it does appear to be inline with the hole that wire goes through. Again- he is not talking about the stud connected to the...

    4 way switch wiring

3 and 4-way switches are a pain. I would start on the 3-ways. If you look carefully (may be hard if the box is full)- you should 2 sheathings with wires going to the switch. One may have white and black, the other probably has black, red, and white. The black by itself should be the common...

Best Advice Given, in a Single Sentence

Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate. JFK It is not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog. Mark Twain Slow in, fast out. Fast in, spin out.
