    Fall Through Winter Cost Thread

Method: in floor radiant Fuel: natural gas Set Temp: 65 degrees Cold Months Average $100 for nat gas and electric (for circulating pumps, power vent hot water tank) My shop is 3600 sq ft with 10 foot ceiling. Well-insulated, R25 walls, R40+ ceiling, 2 inch XPS under and around perimeter of...

What size beam needed for gable style garage?

I would not remove the beam since the floor/ceiling structure is tying the walls together and keeping the roof from sagging and the walls from bowing out. Removing it would allow the roof to sag and push the walls out unless you temporarily held the walls together with cables or something...

    Anchoring a 4 post lift

Not a clue why this is required but I have had two four post lifts in the last 25 years and never anchored either one. No problems whatsoever.

Crack in bottom cord of pole barn truss. Should I be concerned?

Personally, I would inject gorilla glue or similar product, clamp it tightly and drive 8” screws in from the bottom. I would also drill pilot holes up to the crack. Plating the sides will work also but would not be to aesthetically pleasing.

Horrific new slab pour, PROPER corrective action advise needed!

I’m guessing that it wasn’t their fault. Sounds like the redimix company delivered a hot load. With that, plus the hot temperature, they didn’t stand a chance of finishing it. Happened to me once, come to find out, the concrete company had part of a load come back, so they just mixed more with it.

    Radiant boiler

Not all boilers are used to produce steam As defined by Wikipedia A stationary boiler (United States). A boiler is a closed vessel in which fluid (generally water) is heated. The fluid does not necessarily boil. The heated or vaporized fluid exits the boiler for use in various processes or...

    Loopcad Design

You’re overthinking it. I used 1/2” pex spaced at 12” on my whole slab. No noticeable hot or cold spots. I would recommend 1/2 pex instead of 5/8. 1/2 is cheaper and easier to work with.

Boiler size? type? In floor heat.

My shop is 3600 sq ft with 10 ft ceilings. It is very well insulated with R40+ ceilings and R25 walls. The slab has 2” XP’s insulation and has 12 loops of pex spaced 12” apart. Each loop is approx. 300 ft. I use a 75k btu ng power vent water heater for the hot water. I keep the thermostat set at...

    Any California Woodworkers here ?

My local Home Depot here in western Nebraska carries a pretty good supply of redwood. I will see what they have next time I’m in the area, it’s 20 miles away so will be a few days before I will be down that way. I believe ups will ship the sizes you require. If you cannot find a source, I will...

    Underground sprinkler PSI rsting

Good start. I would try to be closer to 40 psi which shouldn't lower your flow rate much. I believe my system produced about 10 gpm at 40 psi and I run 4 Rainbird 5000 series pop up rotors. They shoot about 35 feet with the nozzles that I use. I have been using Rainbird products since I put in...

    Underground sprinkler PSI rsting

Ok, go back to my post #21. Make up a device like what is in the picture and attach to you spigot. Close the valve and open your spigot, the pressure gauge will show your static pressure which should be 90 psi. Slowly open the valve until the gauge shows the pressure that you want your heads to...

    Underground sprinkler PSI rsting

Perhaps I should have been more clear. Friction loss is real and needs to be considered but what I meant was that it’s negligible because a properly designed system makes it so. That’s why we use 3/4 line and if making really long runs, 1” line.

    Underground sprinkler PSI rsting

How big is your yard? Do you intend on using electric valves and a manifold? If you are going to have several circuits and electric valves, I would highly suggest that at this point you have your plumber tap into your main line coming into the house for your sprinkler system. This would give you...

    Underground sprinkler PSI rsting

To the OP Do this and you will be fine. Don’t worry about friction loss in the piping, it is neglishable. Once you determine a flow rate in gpm at a certain pressure, you can then choose your sprinkler heads. Let’s say you have 6 gpm at 40 psi, then you can look at the specs for the head you...

    Underground sprinkler PSI rsting

since the OP did not respond, I will comment on your method. Just filling a bucket from the faucet and timing it will only give you the flow rate to atmoshere. This is highly inaccurate and will lead to bad decisions on how many heads can be ran. To more accurately calculate the flowrate...

    Underground sprinkler PSI rsting

Since you are new to this, I would suggest that you download the Rainbird landscape sprinkler design manual and read it. It has everything you need to design and install a sprinkler system. Installing a underground sprinkler system is not hard but you need to know what you are doing to be...
