    16w Engineering: Project Thread

Have you been trained, formerly speaking? Or have you just built your skill by tinkering and being in the shop all the time? I'm also a DMS'er/major Mitsu fan and also in the Air Force. lol

Are you a DSM'er as well? Or were these just made to be sold?

    16w Engineering: Project Thread

Are the three bolts on the front side of the 5.0 manifold actually inside of it? Are you confident they'll never, ever, ever, ever come loose? lol

    Micrometer Recommendations

I've never owned one. But I used them a lot at a job prior to being in the military. I just don't remember what brand they were.

    Micrometer Recommendations

I will add, I would rather not have to buy this tool ever again. Or at least not for a long time.

    Micrometer Recommendations

So, I have been looking for a 0-25mm micrometer to use around the garage. Mainly for valve adjustments on BMWs. The problem is, I don't know a whole lot about micrometers and the reputations of different brands. Can you guys suggest decent brands for home use? Also, I don't really want a...

Any interest in an international trading thread?

I wouldn't mind doing this as well. I'm stationed in Germany right now. If I pick things up cheap from flea markets or something I can throw it in here, just not sure how often that will happen. New tools seem expensive as f*ck over here.

Recommend me a screw impact driver

I have a Cornwell that's been awesome, it's held up well. Picked it up for $25 on craigslist, it had never been used. I'd check out craigslist in the local area and see if you can find a cheap buy.

    Killingers Small Shop.

Since you're interested in knife making, check out this thread. Look for the username PETER PETRAKIEV in particular. He does some awesome work building the knives he builds. http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/60621-Knife-thread/page31

Advice on sockets over 1 inch

Holy God, there is not a single punctuation mark in this entire post. I have nothing else to add.

Post a picture of your ratchets!!

I've always use the standard Craftsman ratchets. But lately I've been kind of pissed at their junkiness. So I've picked up these three. I bought them used since I'm just a home mechanic. The next will be a 3/8 flex head from snap on. Also, I don't have the urge to own 78 different ratchets, so I...

    Craigslist Win (I think)

That's essentially what it comes down to.

    Craigslist Win (I think)

No, not from Michigan. I'm in the Air Force, stationed at Scott Air Force Base right outside of St. Louis on the Illinois side. I picked this up while visiting family in Indiana. I typically monitor craigslist for deals wherever I go.

    Craigslist Win (I think)

This gives an idea of their shape. They are used but overall the scoring is minimal. The knurlinh (or whatever it's called) is a bit worn. But you can see how it wore off on the insides of the brass plates. Also, the jaw pads appear to be replaceable.

    Craigslist Win (I think)

Not necessarily "like new". But pretty well kept in my opinion. I'll post a pic in a bit.

    Craigslist Win (I think)

In all honesty, I was more worried about the vice coming through the back window if I hit something.

    Craigslist Win (I think)

Lol, at least it's friendly trolling. When I come back from my tour in Germany they'll get overhauled. In the meantime, they will be used at my dad's home shop.

    Craigslist Win (I think)

I don't even know how I would prove the GM story. The guy I bought it from just said his brother-in-law was a pipe fitter and had helped dismantle a GM factory. And he snagged a few of the items that were being junked. Edit: And it is made by Lyon, I went out and checked.

    Craigslist Win (I think)

I can't remember the brand. I think Lyons sounds familiar, it was built in Aurora, Illinois.

    Craigslist Win (I think)

Pretty much how I looked at it. Figured the vise alone was worth it.
