    Vault garage flooring system ....

Hrm, the brochure doesn't say much about the method but it sounds like it would be similar to other types of epoxy coatings. Interesting that it's considered "commercial grade" as well as solvent-free. Cures in 1 hour too; I'm not sure if that's good or bad. I'd also be curious if anyone here...

Pressure treated bottom-plate vs. mud sill

Whew! I'm glad I didn't get a lot of responses telling me how much I really need that mud sill. I think part of the problem is that it's been so long since I've been in a nice (non-commercial) garage that I'm a little gun shy of my new one ending up like the old within a few years. So, we're...

    First House/Garage ... Pics

Looking good , II. Congrats on the first house and very nice place to park your cars & keep your tools. :) Who says you can't get a lift? There are all kinds of mid-size lifts you could use if you decide you ever need one.

Pressure treated bottom-plate vs. mud sill

Guys, I could really use some opinions here. I was reviewing the plans for my garage's foundations and I noticed (very belatedly) that the slab had no mud sills. The bottom plate of all my walls will be double-stacked pressure treated 2x4s but how well will they hold up over time vs, a 4" mud...

In the beginning, there was... this thing

Q: What happens when you turn a couple of surly old men loose with a sawzall? A: This... That's right! The demolition is well underway after some major delays trying to deal with asbestos removal. The crappy thing is that neither the city nor the county seems to give a rat's bit about whether...

    Bubba's Trailer Park Indy

Bubba, nice shop! I particularly like the little trailer. What is it? I've seen them before and always thought of getting one.

    New Toy: Welder...Finally

Sweet welder Mikey. I was eyeballing one of the Craftsman ones myself so I'll be curious to hear how it performs for you. Be sure to write something up here.

    Night Shots of the garage

I saw the post when you first put the large Texaco sign up and quietly thought, "Why would anyone want to put something that humongous on their wall?" But after seeing it all lit up at night I have to admit that it looks utterly cool.

    Compressor TOO BIG - exist?

I hate to be the party pooper, but the specs on that compressor sound very similar to the US General "Air Superiority" compressor sold by Harbor Freight. I was going to buy the exact same compressor, but am now thinking of something with similar specs from Campbell Hausfeld. I have no personal...

Are you friggin kidding me? (Weller Cold Heat)

The Weller should only be used for "circuitless" soldering, such as on connections or basic elex components. Anything more complex than a diode and you risk baking the circuit. I have used both the "Cold Heat" and the Weller model and for what they do, the Weller is definitely superior, but it...

What option would you recommend for me?

I'm really in the same boat, where I don't plan on doing anything in my garage that I can forsee destroying a nice Epoxy finish, but I was thinking of a scissor-lift at some future date as well. The info on here is really amazing but also overwhelming. I'd love one of the senior members to go...

Starting up the Cabinet Build for the new shop

Wow! Let me first say, You ****! (j/k) Free cabinets?!? I'm totally jealous! :) Seriously though, that corner one is a great match for the others. Ditto on the cool color. I'm planning to do mine in red as well. Sweet deal, chop!

    Site Plan question

If you can't find anything with the county, you can either measure things out yourself or pay someone to do it. I have a lot less property than you so 2 hours with a tapemeasure and Autocad were all I needed. I'm not sure what area you're in so I'll just offer some generic advice for your site...

    Hot Rod Magazine Cabinets

My thinking too. Since I know I won't be beating my own cabinets to death, I don't have a problem saving money on MDF ones. They're only there for storage anyways, so what's inside them is a lot more important to me. It's interesting reading about how strongly people feel about the inflated...

    Let's Talk Nutdrivers

I'm not a big fan of Jensen or Excelite myself. You see their kits all over in the computer industry and while they seem very complete, the tools always felt a little cheap to me. I have a standard set of Craftsman nutdrivers that came with a set I bought some time ago. They've been adequate...
