Need input 8ft back yard privacy fence....

Look around for a company that supplies the dock building industry, like these guys: http://southernpinelumber.com/products/piling/ The big box stores sell lumber rated for ground contact, as in: "laying on top of the ground". Which is what your fence will be doing after a few years if...

    Support for EMT between fixtures

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I should just stick a pipe hanger between each pair of lights and be done with it. When the lights are on it will be so bright that I won't be able to see them up there anyway! :)

    Support for EMT between fixtures

Need some guidance... Metal garage, running 1/2" EMT between 4' direct wire LED fixtures mounted in a row on metal strut hung from ceiling. I see that support for the EMT is required on 10' centers and within 3' of a box or termination. What if the ends of the fixtures are 3' or less apart? Do I...

HF Braun light -- how well does yours work?

I have two and like them a lot. Tested battery capacity with a smart charger and they came in at 2400mAh, so the label (2200mAh) is accurate. They look kind of like "Men In Black" neuralizers... especially when you have it facing the wrong direction when you turn it on!

    Milling set up question

Thanks for the tips, Guster & ER70S-2! I get to play in the machine shop enough to know that half the job is figuring out the right way to fixture things. Now I've got something new to try! -- Carl

    Milling set up question

Educate me on this. How would you securely mount the gear on the lathe? Same question for the earlier suggestion to mount it on the chuck. Not taking issue with the approach, just trying to learn a new trick. Thanks!

What mistakes have you made in your build?

Double check measurements when the corners of the foundation are layed out and before any dirt work or digging takes place. Once the forms are set, verify you've got the slope, slab height, and thickness you want. When the building goes up make sure the doors are where you want them, mark the...

I **** at making crimps, need a better tool. I use the adhesive lined heat shrink solder **** splices on my boat trailer. They get dunked in salt water on a regular basis and do a great job.

    Finding straight boards

I always wonder what happens to all that picked-over lumber. Does someone eventually buy it? Does the big box store toss it in the dumpster? Firewood? -- Carl

Building a garage over drainage pipe

How sure are you that you know the location of the pipe? We had to relocate the line running to our drain field to build a detached garage. Nothing beats putting eyes on it in a couple places. -- Carl
