Save Your Old Parts until Job is Over

We had a small job of replacing 2 wheels on a cleaning cart today. New wheels came with a new axle also. Turned out, new axle was 2 inches shorter than the old. Simply reused the old one. Good thing we didn’t cut the old one off. Used a grinder to cut beat on cap nut off one end. Wheels were...

    Slowly Getting There

30 minutes here, half a day there. We are gathering our scattered tools back together, mostly wrenches at the moment. Piecing together a set for 1 cart, then another. Trying to keep brands together as much as possible. Doing this as time allows, between service calls & other projects. Many...

Tool for Square Holes in Metal

Sometimes I see a need for a square hole in metal, smaller than easily cut with a saw. A good example would be to use a carriage bolt for a metal part. What is the best tool for this?

    Vintage Farm Implement

I saw this at a Cracker Barrel. I assume it is some type of rake for wheat or hay but that’s only a guess. Does anyone know for sure?

    Western Auto & True Value

I grew up in a small town with a Western Auto store. Small store but decent lines of tools, hardware, sporting goods, etc. I bought tool boxes, tools, tackle boxes $ fishing gear there. I saw similar in various other small town WA stores & saw a few in larger towns that mainly sold auto parts...

    Sharp Edge Jigsaw Blades

I won a Black & Decker workshop years ago in a store drawing. It included a split top workbench, power tools & accessories. It included a set of jigsaw blades, 1 with a standard smooth knife edge. It was great for heavy cardboard. I have never seen another of this blade. Not in stores or on...

    Fixing an Unbrella

I’ve fixed a lot of umbrellas over the years simply by threading fabric back to the spoke tips. This umbrella has plastic caps. I made a usable cap from a ball point pen cap.

    They Quit Making It

I have found various things I really liked that quit being made. Basic Klein leather tool pouch. Some had 2 front pockets, some 3. Both very good. I could carry my basic electrical tools on my hip. Slim, light & sturdy. They made this for years & I went through a few of them. Craftsman had a...

    Tool Containers

One of my big irritations these days is how many sets of tools come with no good case or pouch. The boss recently gave me a 5 piece set of easy outs & a small tap & die set; 6-32 up to 1/4x20. See pic. I cut down a toothbrush tube for the easy outs. Works well. I have an old drill bit case &...

    Oil Siphon Pump

Just bought a new Troybilt push mower. Has no oil drain plug. Manual says turn it over & pour out. Seems messy. Their website has a siphon pump that looks good & Home Depot also has it. Looks good to me. Have any of you tried these pumps? Thx for any feedback.

    Westward Socket Sets

I started a new job recently at a factory, after a lot of years in electrical construction & service. Loving the job & coworkers. Having to learn a lot of new stuff late in life but all is good. 😀 Our dept has several Westward socket sets. These are huge sets with 1/4, 3/8 & 1/2 drive and both...
