Tom2, I use an artist "self healing" rubber mat over my workbench from an art supply store. You can cut on it and it leaves no marks, plus it has measurement grids silkscreened on the top for quick cuts without a tape measure. Cleans with Windex. Comes in green and black in a variety of sizes...
