Cross-cutting 6" x6" x 0.250" thick metal box tube square and true, with the least amount of kerf loss as possible?

A good horizontal bandsaw should be able to cut square within 1/16". If you need closer than that you need to allow enough material for machining to dimension. Most bandsaw blades are around .030" thick.

When your neighbors don't like your new garage....

I'd like to quote AP mechanic " if you have neighbor problems you didn't but enough property". I think this works both ways in this case.

    Notching Angle Iron

A shop I worked at had a angle notcher like your talking about it was mostly unused because the corner it formed was poor. Almost impossible to hold any dimensional tolerance. I think that buying a pair of good corner clamps and cutting the material a hair short and filling the gap with weld...

Sheet metal rolling with a hydraulic press

you can buy a pinch roller make your part and throw it away for less money than building a die to form that in a hydraulic press. 22 gage you should be able to form by hand around something close to the size you need. I worked in the vacuum coating industry for over 30 years we never used mild...

If you have welding capabilities wrap the edge with some flat bar. I thing 1/16x1 would work well.

I'm not sure but I think that engine was designed by Triumph and is mostly the same as a TR7. Some cars of that era used a Borg Warner type 35 transmission if so RUN AWAY.

How long does it take to change the spark plugs in the Jeep? I just did the first plug change on my 2000 Corvette at 70,000 miles and it was not an easy job, won't tell you how long it took.

Do you ever make a drill jig for jobs like that? Pick up the hole pattern from the cover, use a reasonably thick hunk of scrap so that the drill and tap are kept square to the head. I've done this many times for areas that you can't reach or see.

    This guy worth $40?

I'm making a WAG that drill press head was removed from a multi station gang drilling set up and made into a floor model. What it's worth is somewhat dependent on where you live. I live in a machine tool desert where everything is rare and overpriced. 40.00$ seems OK to me for a project.

    Sheet metal surface for workbench?

16 ga is the right thickness, I would have a 1 1/2" 90* bend on the front edge to cap the wood and a backsplash bent on the back side if the bench is against the wall. SS'T is more pretty but galv will work just as well.

Sometimes an electric fuel pump will loose one or two segments on the armature and fail to pump. If you smack the bottom of the fuel tank it sometimes will move the armature to good winding and the car will start. This is something you might try next time it stalls. Carrying a fuel pressure...

    Bit Sharpener

The general tool type grinding attachments is much better than a drill doctor and only costs about $20.00. One of the problems with the drill doctor is that you can see only the results because the grinding wheel is hidden it it's worthless plastic guts. You need to be able to see the...

bench top mill vs. lathe attachment

IMHO spending $500.00 for a milling attachment for that Atlas lathe would be really foolish. Atlas lathes are not sturdy machines so you would be limited to really light cuts and would likely feel a lot of chatter. The other limiting factor is the amount of travel you would have. One other...

Your post about repairing your mower deck reminded me of some mowers that a local rental yard had. They were homemade, the deck was a box made of 1/4" plate. I seem to remember that they had some sort of a belt drive for the blade but it's been long time.
