    Quote to hang drywall....

I am currently collecting quotes and from what I have received so far it is only $500 more to have the guy deal with every buying the sheetrock and installing it.

    Debating toolboxes. Help me.

I was looking in HF today at the 11 drawer black combo set and the quality seemed fairly crappy. The drawer guides were flimsy and the drawers didn't seem to close correctly. How are the HD and Lowes ones (or Craftsman for that matter)?

    Reroute heating pipe

Gimp which I can't figure out where the "Draw line" function is so its freehand. The enclosed black area is the original house, the blue area is the addition. Thin red line is the heat pipe, thick red line is the current baseboard locations.

    Argh.. Plumber not calling back

We finally were able to get 2 different plumbing companies to come in and look at the job so they can give us quotes. The first company is "slow right now" so they could start within a few days whereas the other company won't even start putting the quote together until Monday and they have at...

    Reroute heating pipe

In the addition that I am working on the existing hot water pipe for the 2nd floor heating zone needs to be rerouted because it runs across two doorways. The feed and return both come up in the same wall (marked with the black X). I want to reroute the return from the location marked at "2"...

    Quote to hang drywall....

One guy I talked to is quoting me $41/sheet for 4x12 sheets which includes materials, taping and mudding which works out to $0.85/sq foot.

    Quote to hang drywall....

Well my father, FIL and friends are all on the "if you can afford to hire someone to do the drywall and mudding then do it bandwagon". This is fine by me but now my wife has been "reminding" me that I had said that we were doing everything from when the addition was weather tight on and now Im...

    Argh.. Plumber not calling back

I had been going back and forth with a plumbing company in Dec/Jan timeframe to move my heating system once the insulation was up in the addition. In January I asked them for an updated quote with having them install the two new zones (baseboard, valves, the whole 9 yards) and never heard from...

    Quote to hang drywall....

How far behind can the edge of the boxes be from the outer edge of the drywall? I think that will determine the maximum thickness of drywall that I use. I actually figured the count of drywall out and it breaks down to: 45 sheets on the 2nd floor 52 sheets on the 1st floor 10 sheets of...

    Quote to hang drywall....

I just did a rough calculation of needing 94 sheets of drywall. That is going to be rough. All of the boxes are set 1/2" out from the wall as per code.

    Quote to hang drywall....

The only "reason" I have for doing it myself is because Im having problems with the HVAC guys to move my heat and install the baseboard in the addition which means I need to hang drywall in areas. I do get what you mean though and I know I **** at cutting boxes in.

    Quote to hang drywall....

The crew I have to help makes #2 a definite and adds in #4: 4. Order lots of pizza and wings. Edit: Of course now a friend of mine who used to be in the construction biz thinks that I won't save anything by hanging the drywall myself then farming out the mudding vs just hiring someone to do...

    Oil Change Container

I use a 5 gallon plastic bucket with a sealable lid. I bring my oil to a friends garage where he deals with it.

    Quote to hang drywall....

Now you guys are starting to scare me :) We are hanging drywall in just under 2 weeks (hopefully) and I am planning on buying the lift at HF for the ceilings. Luckily I have a large crew of people who are at least semi-experienced at hanging drywall.

Anyone use rainbarrells under there downspouts?

I have a 55 gallon olive barrel I use to catch rainwater. I ended up putting a bulkhead fitting on like this one...

Rough wiring for a non-existant Island

All I did was put a breaker in and connect a 12/2 run to under where the island will be and left about 10 feet spooled under the floor. The inspector never even asked me about it.

    Woohoo. I passed rough :)

Rough wiring for a non-existant Island

All of my breakers are installed. The minimum I needed to do was to run the wiring but nothing I could find said that I couldn't also install the breakers before rough. They are in a brand new panel which isn't live yet.

Rough wiring for a non-existant Island

I installed the breaker and ran line out to under where the island will be with about 10 feet extra coiled up under the floor. I don't have to worry about drywall or anything else at that point.

Rough wiring for a non-existant Island

A thought I just had was to put the breaker into the box and pull the wire to where it would come up under the floor but leave it spooled in the basement until I have the island in place THEN drill it through and pull it up.
