    Craftsman speed ratchet

The one you’re looking at isn’t mint, but it’s nice, so it might be less, but generally they average about $100. That‘s going from mint condition examples down to user grade examples. The two depicted below are probably in the $125 ++ range for comparison purposes. Jim C.

Show your Indestro and Duro-Chrome tools

Thanks for digging into it! Nothing gets by you guys (Lugz, Four, Jeep). If one is looking for an answer regarding vintage tools, there’s no better place to start looking. Jim C.

Is this socket from a set? Are there more of these in different sizes? Thanks. Jim C.

Why are these Craftsman wrenches different?

Yeah, but here in the “VINTAGE” tool discussion, there’s a lot of collectors and that stuff matters. Hence all the type studies, old catalog searching, and research that takes place here. It’s not a contest about whose stuff is better, etc., but rather a discussion about the use and history of...

    “For display only”

RTM, It‘s not as bad as you might think. The planes have been boxed up for two years now, and I’m doing okay with them in boxes. Dusting them was not my favorite thing to do, and my wife did not particularly care for decorating the house with old tools. Beyond that, I was really the only one...

    “For display only”

Hey Lugz, Thanks for the kind words. The photo above represented the top collector grade 97% perfect to NOS planes. I didn’t really ever seriously use any of them. I have a working collection that I use daily. It’s smaller in terms of the actual number of planes, but still expansive...

    “For display only”

I’m sort on the fence. I really enjoy using vintage tools and machinery particularly when I’m woodworking, which can easily be between 6 - 10 hours per day. I’ve been hooked on old hand planes for years and it’s not unusual to see a 100 year old Stanley on my bench hard at work, or a 50+...

The #10C, a good catch? I‘d say it was a GREAT catch! Those are rare to find in the wild. What’s the story be behind It? Jim C.

    Craftsman Sockets =V= Series Fonts

As others have said, the different fonts are simply the result of various production runs over the years. It‘s difficult to determine when the fonts changed from one to another, which are more recent or dated, etc. There is one specific set of sockets from the classic =V= era that can be...

    Craftsman wall cabinet

Hey bugnut, They’re hard to see in the picture, but the screwdrivers are 100% correct for that box. I relied on the 1954 Craftsman catalog as my point of reference when I was putting the set together as well as a few seasoned tool collectors opinions. I’m fairly confident that every tool in...

JoCo, Here’s the 1960 version of that set. I really like those boxes. There was a 3/8” set as well. The box was slightly smaller in size. It’s my opinion that the smaller box is a little bit harder to find. Jim C.

    Craftsman wall cabinet

It does look like the carpentry tool version. It’s hard for me to see from the pictures, but it might be missing a few of the interior brackets/hooks. $40 could just be the right price for that particular example. Jim C.

I Found An Unusual Walden Worcester 1/4” drive set. Feel free to post your Walden tools here.

I traded another collector for this Walden No. 21 drain plug set. It’s missing the #1124 driver and cross bar (pictured below from AA). Jim C.

    3/8" Socket Spinners!

I don’t have much to add. I have this 3/8” spinner made by Giller. It seems like a good tool but I can’t say that I know anything about the Giller tool company. Jim C.

Well, I’d be happy to trade with you. Or, I could send you those that you might need if I have duplicates. We’ve both been working on this set for awhile now. I’d really like to complete it! Jim C.
