    Best tool to cut bricks?

I have been using a Home Depot tile saw on brick and pavers with good results. The saw runs the blade in a tray of water so no pump to chew up and blades are cheap and actually last a while. Have to make 2 cuts on thicker items but have cut concrete pavers and blocks with no drama except getting...

Looking for ideas to cover RV ceiling

We have an older motorhome and the ceiling panels have a vinyl "skin" that is peeling off. Kind of like wallpaper. Do not want to pull the cabinets and replace the panels if at all possible. Have considered removing the vinyl and painting and have seen textured styrofoam tiles that can be a...

Has anyone seen a fastener like this before?

Small version of a huck bolt. They are swaged (crimped) on and not reusable. Cut the bolt off at the top of the nut and then split the nut towards the head of the bolt as far as you can without hitting the part you want the save. Split the nut the rest of the way with a chisel and toss the bits...

What paint brands do you avoid

Used Behr for years because HD is close to home. Worked OK inside and does not last very well outside. We redid a room with paneling and painted with Behr and there was a reaction of some sort and it stank and would not stop, even after drying. Long story short, Behr refunded the cost of the...

Looking for the best flashlight thats compact for my tool bag

I use heck out of my Olight i5T Plus. 2 AA batteries, low and high tail switch with NO strobe mode. Pocket clip that will fit up to the bill of my hat for third hand light. Started out with the AAA model but the switch kept failing which they warranteed.

New Millwright: Gray, Mac, Snap on

I am not a millwright, but I work at least 3 locations for my job, either out of my box (447 pounds of stuff) or a carry bag. Hard to have every single tool for every occasion, but cover your basics with basics. If you are going to have a mortgage, make sure it is for a home not tools. What you...

    Mechanical projects for kids

My Dad and I did several projects over the years. One that sticks out was when he asked me to rebuild the lawnmower engine on our go kart he built. Screaming 1 HP Briggs with a gear reduction he said was from a washing machine. Drain the oil, pull the shroud, head and carb. Showed me how to pop...

    Mechanical projects for kids

Taking stuff apart is great. Change/fix a flat on a bicycle. Oil the chain while you are at it. A roll of bell wire, a 6V lantern battery, a light bulb and a switch. Wind a electromagnet and rig up a simple crane for it. Make a light for a camping tent or a cardboard fort. Make a little motor...

Drilling rivets. How to pick the correct size drill bit?

Usually when I drill a rivet, I use a bit the same as the shank in the rivet so sneak up on the size starting smaller. Do the first one or 2 in a spot that will not be visible normally just in case.

Sink Anchor Holes/Slots Missing in Granite Countertop

I used sink clips found on Amazon and an epoxy that is made as a thick paste. Place a lump of mixed epoxy on the underside of the counter and push the bolt into the lump squishing the epoxy thru the holes in the bolt. Remounted a porcelain bowl to a granite counter with these and silicone on the...

Anyone have success getting Lowes to honor Craftsman warranty?

Broke a 1/2" universal recently. Took the broken item to Lowes and walked out with a replacement no fuss. The CSR I dealt with could have cared less and probably didn't want to do paperwork. No complaints here.

What circular saw size for someone that wants to build their own home?

I'll suggest a 7.25 corded standard circ saw and a miter saw on a sturdy bench or table that will allow you to handle the longer lumber maybe with the help of a roller. The circ will be a general workhorse and the miter saw will make sure you have nice square or mitered cuts when you need them...

Curb find. Seems gently used, tires are decent, the table light works. Might try changing the pullies and use it for light metal.

Help with finding the area of a irregular shape

Sort of related, I had to find the volume of a irregular space (spray cabinet) and stumbled on a formula on a website that was about designing and building speaker cabinets. Solved the problem and passed inspection.

    AC fan not spinning

You should change the cap regardless if you change your motor or not. Change the cap first, looks like it might be your problem and if not, it will be ready to serve when the new motor goes in.

    2021 Garage Sale Thread

Found a moving sale today. Picked up a carbon/gasket scraper and a Millers Falls gizmo that has me wondering if it is a store/counter display rather than an index. All holes are 1/2".
