Just picked up the magnetic tool organizer marked down from 18 to 3. Bought the last two they had left. Driver sets were not marked down however, which I found interesting how these things vary by region.

The 6 pts have more of a contact point but the play in the 12 pts just seems to make them more effective. Now if the corners of the bolt are gone I may try a 6 pt but otherwise I tend to use 12. Like I said, I don't know the reason for the difference. That was just my thought and what I do on...

I am not sure about this but when I lived in Georgia we never had a need for 12 pt sockets. But when I moved to ohio the 12 pts because much more useful because of the salt and rust issues. Idk if that is it but it is something I noticed as I never needed 12 pts in southern states!

Never heard of them either but like things for the mentioned dash work I can see how they'd be useful. Looks like I'll be forced to make another investment!

Yes snap on will have the parts for it. And after that it really isn't all that complex. You'll be able to figure out how to do it once you find the problem

It doesn't sound like it's the spring but the teeth are fine maybe the mechanism? Anymore pics of the individual parts?

It would be decent for working on break lights. The other craftsman led lights would probably be better in my opinion though! But all personal preference.

Definitely worth the restoration! I restored my current box years ago and it was well worth the time and effort!
