    New 60'x140' Shop!!

Very nice building!! I'll have to keep an eye on this. Just a couple of observations. As long as you're building it that big, I would suggest taller overhead doors. I went with a 24' X 14 1/2', and it's no more than enough height for the sprayer. We all know that the equipment won't get any...

What Has Your Dog Torn Up in the Shop?

During the construction phase, I had a notepad with all of the plumbing & electrical layouts in the walls drawn out. I left it in a conspicuous location for the drywaller to find, but Wrigley, a 1 year old Shepard/Chow mix got to it first. He woulld also drag off gloves, cardboard, rags, or...

What smell do you hate the most (in the shop)

I would have to agree with bindernut on this one. Most folks on here have probably never had the opportunity to experience this putrid, rancid odor, but if they did, they would be scarred for life. My grandpa used to say "they smell like s&%#, with something in it to make it stink!!" Gear lube...

My new shop is almost done

Congratulations Chris!! You'll really enjoy the shop. I like the color scheme. Looks familiar.:) We dreamed about one for longer than you, but we're enjoying it now. Plan everything under the concrete before you pour. Makes life much easier.

    The Fun Has Begun

Thanks for the compliment. It has been more of an undertaking than I could have ever imagined. Keep in mind that we went way overboard on this, and spared no expense. Double your guess, and you would be closer. Granted, we could have pinched pennies, and cut corners, but it was our choosing not...

    Anybody use Porcelain tiles?

Thank you. I haven't had any problems. I tend to work with a lot of heavy iron, and I'd be afraid of damaging the tile. Thank you, but they aren't that straight. I have a friend that laid them all free hand. I pay a lot more attention to tile floors now, and have seen some pretty crappy...

    Anybody use Porcelain tiles?

We put porcelain tile in the car storage area... I wouldn't use it in a work area, but for storage, it's just fine. Sweeps & mops up really well. I did seal the grout, and I may have to do that every couple of years, but other than that, it's maintenance free. Be careful of the cheap...

Shop Rags in a Box Holder

I don't know if this is considered "cheap' or "creative," but after finding some aluminum angle that I had left from another project, I spent less than 2 hours making 4 rag box holders, and 2 glove holders. I didn't know if they would be strong enough, but they're tougher than they...

Shop Rags in a Box Holder

That's exactly what I was thinking of. I wonder why it didn't show up when I "googled" it. Of course, I should have thought of "Ebay!" Thank you.

Shop Rags in a Box Holder

Does anyone have a wall mounted holder for these boxes? One shop that I visited had milk crates mounted to the wall, with a hole in the bottom, and the box in upside down. Very effective, but I would like something a little fancier. I know that I'll probably end up fabricating something...

What fluid do you use in your lift?

Case-IH Hy-Tran hydraulic fluid. It meets the specs from BendPak, (and I just happened to have a 5 gallon bucket of it.) We use it, or its equivalent in all of our off road equipment, hot, cold, or anywhere in between. Either one should work fine. It's just a matter of choice.

    Short Term Car Cover Storage

You are correct. We bought it from Dale in Oregon 10 years ago. The only car show that we go to anymore is Amboy Depot Days. This year the original purchaser of the car showed up, and just after he left, the third owner stopped by. I know 4 of the 5 previous owners. Gary, it's good to see...

    Short Term Car Cover Storage

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to store a car cover while you're "out for a ride?" I'm not going to roll it up tight enough to go in the storage bag, but it's rather bulky. It will be in a clean environment, so some kind of open wall rack would suffice. What do you do with yours?

    The Fun Has Begun

Thanks again for all of the compliments. They mean alot to me. My trusses are on 8' centers, so they laid 2X4s flat on 36" spacing so there's a nailer at every seam. It is a small world, isn't it. And I'm worthy of your first post. Thank you.

    The Fun Has Begun

Thanks for all of the compliments. It's been a lot of hard work, but will be well worth it in the long run. We are working on it. The '71 and the 2010 get the toyroom. The pewter '02 is just my daily driver "work car," and the navy blue 2000 is the yougest sons new ride. It's...

    The Fun Has Begun

Again, I must apologize for not updating the progress. This thing has consumed nearly every waking moment this summer, but I see the light at the end of the tunnel. This is the decking & steel purlins used for floor joists. Spanning 24', someone told me that I could park a truck up there, and...

    Need Help! Radiant Heat Layout

If something would happen to one circuit, (and hope it never does,) you will have a large area without heat. I have 12 runs in the shop zone, and they all intermingle, so even if one loop has to be shut off, there's no more than a 24" distance between lines. It was professionally drawn out...
