One way to build a anvil

Start with a 1-1/2"x16"x26" plate Then add a 14"x.750"W pipe Then add a couple 6" 1500# blind flanges Then cap it off with a chunk of a 966 loader fork, 5"wide x 40" long I built this out on a remote job a couple decades ago and it is by no means a good anvil, but it got me by. Royce

    New, old cord reels

Scored a couple very nice appleton 20 amp 30' cord reels. One did not power up, so I tore it down, freed up the brushes and stoned the commutators. Runs like a clock now. The other worked good on the bench, but after I got it hung, it has some dead spots. I guess I need to slick it up as well...

    soft jaws again

Went out to the shop this morning to clean up and lost my way. Cut and fit some yellow cedar soft jaws on a Columbian 3-CD and 9-RD. Also leathered a Reed 224, with a old welding glove. The shop is still a wreck. Royce

    aluminum soft jaws

I have some drops of 6061 T-6, so I cut some jaws for a Reed 214-S today. I intentionally cut them oversize a touch to help from nicking the vise body with a grinder or striking an arc on the body. I've not used aluminum for jaws before and found that they grip better with far less pressure than...

    Built in bench top ruler

I think a built in ruler may prove handy. So, I drilled and tapped the end of the bench to bolt a rotating end stop. I used a 1-2-3 block for the stop and it rotates down below the bench top when not in use. Next step is to mill a recess in the top so the rule lays a whisker below flush. Then...

A dining table for MRS Clause

Got started today with a side grinder trying to even up the underside of this bowling lane. It plugged up 4 discs before I gave in and used a router to get through the tar on it. I think I'll set up some rails to run the router on to get bottom the plumb flat and reduce the thickness some. Also...

    Santa builds a foot stool

This project is going to be gifted to my son-in-law and my daughter. He is a avid bowler and the core of this is a piece of lane that he bowled on, before it was demolished. It will be 14"wide x40"long Now then, a tandem bike is called a 2-seater, so is a tandem foot rest a 2-feeter? I think...

    Parker 976 stand

This is a fine example of a Parker, so I'm going to pull out all the stops to make this stand. Here are a plan & elevation sketch and a couple pics of the vise, freshly boiled and oiled. Royce
