How to thank a great neighbor???

I agree. Might want to hold off on the alcohol until you get a better feel for the neighbor. Everybody enjoys homemade baked goods, though.

    Building for later expansion?

I'd remove the tree before building a small building. Might be very difficult to get the proper equipment in there if you ever decide to expand (I could probably fell a tree in an open field...put anything of value within a couple hundred feet and my confidence would shrink). One other thing...

Best price on magnetic parts trays?

For sure. They run as little as $2 for their small one and you can catch the larger ones on sale for about $6 In the spirit of frugality and craftyness...you can always use a plain old magnet (sandwich them between 2 cups and you made yourself a pretty good magnet cup.)

    Floor Jack Storage Solution

That looks nice, but I suspect they charged $15 or more for something like that. I don't think something like that would be too difficult to make. A 1x3 and a couple hooks.

Stanley 3-Drawer Metal Tool Box with 122 Tools

Same here. I had it bookmarked for a few weeks before Christmas hoping Santa might be lookin on my computer. I don't really need all those tools, but thought the toolbox would be worth the $49. I'll keep my eyes open for the sale (wouldn't shock me if they come back on sale)

    quick ceiling insulation question

I agree. Blown insulation is cheap, quick and pretty easy.

    Let's See Your Garage Dog

She's my first Labrador, and I'm starting to understand why Labradors are the most popular registered breed.

    strange noise in water line

In which case, I'd open the hot water faucets in all the sinks (tub too) until the hot water tank was empty. Boil them suckers. :) :bounce: Or you could do what they do with tapeworms. Fast for a few days and then hold a nice cheeseburger right in front of your mouth. Those tapeworms will...

    Car audio powered by 120V

Any thoughts on using a 12v battery and a trickle charger? I ask because I don't know (lectricity ain't my game)

I hear that tools are pretty high on the list

    design help needed

woof? you mean wood? I'd go cheap with the workbench (scrap wood when possible). Then again, that's simply my style. Others take more pride in their carpentry and work areas. Sounds like most are in agreement on the size of the workbench. Build it as large as sensibly possible because once you...

    Big Honkin' Shop Sink?

That'd be cool. Maybe a homemade job like the barrel bobabuee suggested or even a big galvanized tub. Be sure to check craigslist (I noticed local CL ad with several salvaged sinks for <$10)

    H.F magnetic tool holder

Sounds like you figured it out (don't overload it) but another tip is to glue some more magnets to it or simply **** a couple more magnets underneath the shelf.

    design help needed

Gonna be a little tough since his room is only 12 feet wide. :) Regarding OP: I have a huge issue with creating stuff in my head. I have a tiny little corner available for a workbench/desk (3 cars, 4 bikes, BBQ smoker, fridge, etc.). I ended up duct taping some cardboard boxes together so...

    toolbox security

If it's at the house, maybe bolting them to the floor or garage will slow em down (nothing can really stop a determined thief...except bullets) I did see an alarm system on that Cool Tools TV show. Who knows if the product actually made it to market (i don't have much luck finding some of...

    Cool Tools on DIY

I agree. I don't seem to be able to find many of the products on store shelves (not that I'm a serious tool-geek). I DVR'd the marathon and fast-forwarded through 80% of the episodes (the How It's Made TV series is much better if/when I want to see how they make certain products)

    Folding Work Bench

For sure, that book learnin stuff is probably why I'd be more apt to go with straight legs (my skills...er lack of skills....command me to keep things simple)

    Folding Work Bench

Probably depends on how handy you are with a miter saw. You can also support the table with a rope/chain and no legs.

    Lets talk ceiling storage

I shudder to think how expensive something like that might be. What do you plan to do with the 2x8s?

    Lets talk ceiling storage

I always thought these drop down rafter boxes looked neat. I don't like to paint so I'd be inclined to add a 4 foot fluorescent shop light (you can keep the yellow work light if you get a outlet splitter)
