    Harbor Freight Daytona jack question

The piston that is stuck in the down position is the Power side, which is why it won’t lift a load, thus only working on the speed side. If it’s nothing externally with the shielding catching up, it could be something internal between the piston and the cylinder wall. The downfall of this newer...

Bottle Jack Rebuild - Piston Cup

I’d say the replacement piston will be a Newer style with a button end, versus OEM keeper with a staked style tip. It’s better obviously in regards to serviceability, as long the working length are the same. I suspect that’s a 1/2” piston, which was common across a multitude of brands.

Bottle Jack Rebuild - Piston Cup

Also, Depending on how tight that loaded cup fits the bore, you might need to remove the energizer to reduce wall pressure.

Bottle Jack Rebuild - Piston Cup

That was how the factory designed it, a lot of older hydraulic jacks used similar methods to secure seals/washers etc. I’ve still got some old HW NOS pump pistons from that era.

Bottle Jack Rebuild - Piston Cup

I doubt you will ever get that Ucup over that keeper. I would grind enough material off the flared portion to remove the keeper, install the cup, reinstall the keeper and find a hard surface and introduce a hammer to other end to swell it back to secure everything again.

    Floor Jack identification help

It’s a Ausco, Probably a 2 ton unit based off the pictures. I suspect 5-51202 but verify seal sizing prior to buying a kit from a reputable business like Hydraulic Parts supply in Sawyer KS. I suspect looking at the pictures the damage was done above the hex portion as it looks like the...

    Dayton floor jack seals

Sometimes they just need a little persuasion, Make sure the release in the “release position” so you aren’t fighting a vacuum. Next, find a pair of locking pliers that will clamp in front of the ball on the end of the Ram and use some taps with your favorite hammer to exit stage Left or Right...

New construction/Automatic Backup switch install Now or later.

Appreciate the comments, Since my electrician doesn’t do the generator install itself, I called a company that does this Am. I’m going to have a conversation with him today to make sure a 100amp ATS is sufficient. My house will have a ground source heat pump, including a 10k electric backup for...

New construction/Automatic Backup switch install Now or later.

I ended up with 2 electrical panels in the garage, the circuits that have been designated to be run off the generator have conveniently been designated to the sub panel for ease of wiring the 100 amp ATS. The LP and planned standby generator location is opposite the wall, give or take 5’. Since...

New construction/Automatic Backup switch install Now or later.

I currently in the middle of a New Home build and my electricians have been running wires for the last week. I had casually mentioned that at some point in time I might want to add backup generator and if there was anything I should do now that would ease the installation later. One of the...

Which floor jack should I rebuild and keep?

    1. Still in production. 2. Built like a tank with an All welded frame. 3. It was engineered to be serviced for multiple generations. 4. (1) Hydraulic transfer valve, (1) Pump piston so less moving parts which = longevity. 5. Foot pedal to allow quicker adjustments to the load. 6. Release...

    Wilton gold plated

To be fair, that’s a huge vise.. And they do command some respect on the secondary market. I believe full Msrp is north of $3500, it’s easier to come down on price, versus ask more when a interested party shows up.

    Floor Jack Troubleshooting

I suspect the pump piston seal is weak and can’t overcome the vacuum as the oil is transferred from the reservoir to cylinder. I quick check would be to pull the fill plug on the reservoir and then operate the jack and see if the condition remedies itself.

    Overseas Jack Rebuild Help Tutorial.

@Superdavey Yes, the BN backup is fine as long as it’s the right size to mate to the Oring. It’s Impossible to say whether or not the Overload is set correctly without a test station. If the jack previously could lift your truck and after the rebuild it struggled, I’d say you are OK. The job of...

Snap on screwdriver - dealer busted?

Hell… I’m just glad to see you still kicking, it’s been awhile since I’ve seen a post from you. In regards to your screwdriver, If he damaged it while pulling and/or reinstalling the new blade he should have swapped it out. Unfortunately it probably won’t match your set, unless he just happens...

    Floor Jack Identification

I’m fairly certain it’s an early OS, I’ve seen one before with that clip around the pump piston. A simple tear down and cylinder size verification will distinguish the two. It’s always a good idea to put eyes on internals regardless, especially prior to buying a seal kit for vintage lift equipment.

    4 Ton Jack ID

I don’t want to bash the Older HW lineup, but there is a reason that the current Hein Werner company is selling the Walker/Lincoln lineup after they acquired Lincoln Hydraulic. I wouldn’t worry about acquiring soft parts, Hard parts in good used or Nos condition is harder to find but everything...
