New Wilton vise, still worth investing in?

I bought this Wilton vise for $220 last week, and so far I really like it. Despite being imported, I was pleasantly surprised at its build quality. Its no tradesman, but compared to the competing import store brand vises (Yost and equivalents) the Wilton is a step up in quality. Everything is...

Tool Box Delemma - more drawers or wider/deeper drawers

I'm firmly in camp "lots of shallow drawers". The only reason to get deeper drawers, IMO, is if you have a specific need for them, or to store hardware or endmills or something (think Lista cabinets). For tool storage, shallow drawers are almost always more efficient. Check your local...

    Pliers with extra slip joints?

There are very few instances where I've preferred to use slip joint pliers over a pair of Cobras. I have a pair of Wilde slip joints in my toolbox drawer that are a nice set of pliers, but I just rarely have an instance where I think I'll need to use them.

    Post Up Tool Box Deals

I just bought a few Husky tool cabinets off some guy on Facebook Marketplace for about 70% of retail price. They were returned units with a little bit of damage (most of them had broken wheels or dents/scratches), but still totally usable. I ended up getting these 72" Husky boxes, and they're...

Generic charger for lithium ion tool batteries 18-20v

With a lab bench power supply you can charge any lithium battery if you know the charging voltage (4.2v X number of cells) and amperage (3 amps is what most chargers use). There are also generic battery chargers that are common in the RC world, such as this one. If there's an unbalanced cell...

Has anyone ever used a car jump starter?

I have a few of them, and they're great. As long as you get a reputable one with a good size capacity, they will start whatever you need them to. My go-to is a 12/24v unit rated for 2000 cranking amps, which I don't think is sold anymore. It can start an LS1 V8 at least 10 times, with no...

    Socket Wrench Set

That's a freaking cool old ratchet set. Its gotta be very old, like around the turn of the century. I have never seen a ratchet with square drives like that, very unique.

    Lowering trailer

If you try to drive a car onto a flatbed trailer with just the tongue jack and chocks, the front end of the trailer will come up off the ground unless its connected to a vehicle. Jacks under the rear edge of the trailer (ideally right below the ramps) will keep the trailer from tipping...

    "The" heat gun

Why not Metabo? Their upper end digital heat gun is $135, which seems pretty reasonable to me, and in the same price range of most name brand digitally controlled heat guns. I bought one of the digital Metabo heat guns a few months ago since it was a good deal on Amazon warehouse, but I...

Do people buy used rotary lasers?

Rotary lasers are pretty common at pawn shops. People definitely buy them used. Probably only a healthy market for the expensive name brand ones though (DeWalt, Hilti, etc).

    LAN Cable In Feeder Conduit

Can't run cat6 in the same conduit as 120v/240v power. Direct burial cat6 is pretty cheap though, not sure if you still have a trench open.

    Lowering trailer

Could put leveling jacks on all 4 corners of the trailer, and you could adjust the tilt of the bed manually without even having the truck hooked up to it.

    Jig saw recommendations?

Whatever you go with, try to get one that has an available dust collection setup with it. Once you use a jigsaw with a dust collector, you'll never want to use one without. Not only does it **** up most of the sawdust for a less-dusty shop, it also keeps sawdust out of the front of the blade...

    Generic Batteries

I've bought 4 knockoff Makita batteries, and all 4 failed in a year, so I definitely wasn't impressed with them, but many people have said they had good results, so I guess it just depends. What is definitely true is that the AH ratings on knockoffs are always VERY optimistic. Plenty of videos...

Bushing or cord grip for 1/2" KO

Does it have to be plastic? I'm a low voltage contractor and we usually use Romex connectors. They're dirt cheap and have screw down clamps.

Smallest conduit for low voltage wiring?

    Wiremold or 1/2" conduit.

    Garage kitchen undercabinet lighting

For my garage cabinets, kitchen cabinets, and electronics bench, I used 12v tape LEDs and diffuser mounting channels like these. Excellent results in all cases. Get LED tape that's on the bright side. You can always dim it later.

    Mini/Precision pliers set

I'm a huge Knipex fanboy, but their precision pliers are like $40/each, which is a bit steep for me. I have 3 or 4 Wiha precision pliers that I buy up on eBay when they show up at a good price, and I really like them, and they're a little bit cheaper than Knipex.

Miter Saw Diamond Blade For Aluminum Channel?

Diamond blades are not good for aluminum. They get gummed up way worse than wood or ferrous metal blades. I've always used carbide wood blades for aluminum and cut slowly.

    Help with Metabo tool case?

What country are you in? People list those plastic Metabo cases on eBay all the time for like $10 or $15. They're not really anything special. I have a bunch of them collecting dust. If you buy a generic one made for a drill or whatever, you might have to modify the inside a little bit to...
