Harbor Freight 20 Ton Press Modifications Video

A couple years ago I bought a HF 20 ton press, part number 60603. Subsequently, I made a number of modifications and improvements that made it much more user friendly. I've had quite a few questions about it, so I decided to make a short video explaining what I did. I hope you guys find it useful.

    Inexpensive, Cool Old School Welders

Like most of you I regularly browse Craigslist. Occasionally I see a really cool looking old welder for sale pretty cheap. I'm well set for welding equipment, so I'm not looking to buy one. But I thought it would be fun to share one that is currently listed in my area and ask you guys to...

What to do with this old sewing machine lamp

I have this beautiful, nickel plated lamp that came off an industrial sewing machine. I've got it all cleaned and polished and it works great. Just about all my machine tools have lamps already. So I'm looking for ideas of what to do with this cool little lamp. What do you guys think?

Making a little trailer from a junk Ford model T pickup bed

Last year I picked up a very rough 1926-1927 Ford model T pickup bed, dirt cheap. It was ready to be hauled to the dump. As a summer project a resurrected (not restored by any means) it. I made patch panels, welded up a zillion holes, straightened and beat on it. I made a new floor for it...

Harbor Freight sale price match - nice!

A few weeks ago I bought a HF 3/8" 20v lithium Earthquake XT impact wrench (that works great btw) for $169. I saw a $129 coupon in the current flyer. So I took the flyer up today and asked if they would price match it. I didn't have my receipt, so he punched in my phone number, saw that I did...

HF tire changer hitch mount - no welding required

I bought an HF tire changer a while back and needed to mount it securely somehow. I've seen online where guys had welded together a receiver hitch mount with square tubing. I thought that was a great way to do it. Last week I was in the local HF store and spotted this receiver hitch vise mount...

    Notifications for subscribed threads

I noticed a couple days ago that I was not receiving email notifications for threads I'm subscribed to. I checked my profile and my email is correct. Late yesterday afternoon I received a bunch of notifications all at once. This morning I noticed that again I did not receive a notification for...

What to do with a laser guide?

Harbor Freight sells this neat little laser guide/marker for $5.99. Its fully adjustable and puts out a bright red straight line to use as a guide. Here I stuck it on an antique sewing machine to use as a fabric guide. I'm sure it could be used on many different tools; saws, drill press, chop...

Simple, home made indoor paint booth

Well, more like a box than a booth. I made this up a couple years ago when it was too cold to paint a few things outside for a project. I've found it to be very handy and that maybe someone else could use the idea. It's just a cardboard box with the top cut out. Laying on top is a furnace...

Dumpster find - what to make with it?

I always have my eye out for usable scrap metal or other things I can repurpose. I found this yesterday. It was some type of fire pit or trash burner. The screens and cross braces are trash, but the 4 curvy legs are very soild. I think they could be used to make a tool stand, work table or what...

Barrett Brake Rivet Machine with Lining Grinder

Barrett brake riveting machine for riveting linings to brake shoes or anything using brass tubular rivets. This is a top of the line machine and includes the lining grinding attachment for arcing the shoes to fit the drums, and the drill mechanism for drilling out old rivets. Works fine. A great...

    Roll around work table

I made this work table a couple years ago and thought it useful enough to share. I do a lot of cutting, sanding and grinding for various projects. I prefer to do that kind of work out in the driveway, rather than get the garage dirty. So I built this work table. The frame came from an old...

Cleaned and greased four angle grinders today

After reading about the need to grease these, I decided to go through mine. It was a pretty easy job, and now I feel better about using them. They were an old craftsman, an old Dewalt 402 and two harbor freight grinders. All had grease in them, but in all cases, the gears were bone dry. The...

    Dake Arbor Press Refresh

I've had this Dake 1-1/2 (3 ton) arbor press for about 5 years. I use it all the time and it is a great tool. Its been well used, but not abused. Last week I finally decided that it deserved a refresh. It was disassembled and stripped to bare steel. Everything was cleaned and inspected...

    Handy portable vise

I've been using this for about 4 years and thought that maybe others would find it useful. I took an old vise and bolted it to an old brake rotor from a 1/2 ton truck. It is heavy enough to stay where I need it when holding things on a welding table. The only modification was to shorten the vise...

HF 1 ton shop crane/engine hoist - two versions

I'm thinking of buying a 1 ton shop crane for moving equipment around the shop. With a coupon, HF has them for $99 through the end of the month. There are two versions currently available. https://www.harborfreight.com/1-ton-capacity-foldable-shop-crane-69512.html...

    Vintage Lincoln Idealarc 250/250 welder

Been looking for a good vintage arc welder for a while. Not just any old buzzbox, but a good AC/DC+/DC- machine. I finally found this really nice Idealarc 250/250, made in 1974. I put a new power cord and plug on it, cleaned it out and it was ready to go. The beast weighs 360+lbs. It welds so...

Can you identify this Lincoln welder?

There is a yard sale tomorrow in my area. They posted a bunch of photos of various things, including this one of a welder, but no description, no price, no other info. Can anyone identify it?

Just picked up a Walker 882 roll-a-car jack!

It's grubby, but seems to work well with no significant leaks. After a little clean up, it will be a good companion to my 1924 Ford. Is there any way to date these? Maybe a ballpark guess?

    Walker Roll-A-Car jack model 862

Is anyone familiar with this model? Searching the web comes up with a lot of 740s, 882s and others. But I find nothing on 862. Wondering if there is anything to be concerned with on this model? Are seal kits still available? Roughly, when were 862s made? Thanks, Steve
