What is your single most used tool?

For me its probably a Channellocks 440, then a Klein multi screwdriver, then a Craftsman 8" adjustable wrench.

    Professional mechanics or technician

NHBandit, I like your take on it. Both are very skilled and should be highly respected, whatever trade you happen to be in. I can tell you from a mechanics point of view, its often times a thankless job, because the machines I am working on are not personal to anyone, its get it done now and...

    Professional mechanics or technician

Mechanics do exist, its called industrial. Its a whole different world from cars. "Techs" in my world are very specific usually, then there are Millwrights, who do everyones job and then some. I like the word "mechanic".

Point me to a good ratchet wrench comparo

I think Proto are the best, but a bit higher $$$. Gearwrench flex heads are nice, there are drawbacks to that design as well, but they have been the most versital for me, which is the most important aspect in my eyes for what I do.

    These jacks worth saving/rebuilding?

I have worked plenty of identical jacks, such as the large one, I recognize the handle but I cant remember brand name, good jacks! Lincoln makes great stuff as well and are rebuildable. I would say yes to rebuilding both! I will be willing to help if need be, the best that I can. Im sure...

    Torque number with Anti-seize

BTW, antiseize is great stuff in general, but I wouldnt use it as slide lube, it will get gummy. It works well for things you dont intend on moving for a long time.

    Torque number with Anti-seize

Coefficient friction of a grade 8 bolt is 1.17. Multiply that by the coefficient of .8 for C5A antiseize. Then multiply that by your dry torque value, that is the torque required IF you use C5A. Neverseize has a coefficient of .45 or something very close btw.

    Let's see your toolbox.

I have a couple of buddies who work for Wisconsin Lift, they all say the lifts that come from Sanimax are amongst the worst lol. The worst I had to deal will when doing hydraulics were garbage trucks, most of the time in the summer lol, that was bad enough.:willy_nil

middle of the road Tap & Die Sets: what's out there??

Id say ACE, IRWIN/Hanson sets are the best middle of the road. I bought a 40pc Tekton set from fleet for $10, its been good so far. Greenfield is very good, more pricy though.

Where all do YOU use an amp clamp?

I use an ampmeter all the time to check AC/DC motors in our plant. Everything very small up to 400 amps. All sorts of voltage ranges in AC, anything from 120V to 580V. Most often this is on three phase motors to see if a phase is higher or lower than another.

    Angle head wrenches

Dang Dan, then they have those suckers too tight, plain and simple. I havent had an issue, but Im 25 and havent been in the game super long, Id suspect you have been going at this longer than me. Then again, 12 is big enough, if its been on there a long time, I could see it being a potential...
