    60 gallon compressor

Now that's a loaded question if I ever heard one! :) It's that last one that would worry me. Sandblasting takes a whole lot of CFM's Watch those Home Depot units. They advertise 5 horsepower when the motor is only about a 3 horsepower. Lots of companies have misrepresented the CFM's that...

    Favorite Assembly lube?

It's definitely better to prime the motor before turning it over however, that does not in any way replace using a good assembly lube as it goes together.

    Hidey-ho neighbor!

HAHA! Yep, Wilson...that's me! :canadian: I'm in Southern Saskatchewan. My hobbies are many and varied. I have a couple of old Chevy trucks that I want to combine with some new body panels to give me a nice daily driver. I'm a model railroader, a computer nut, like shooting and editing...

Is a flex head ratchet useful?

I have often wondered if these were really useful or not. I have looked at flex ratchets before but I had not noticed the offset style prior to this post. It does look like it would be handy for exhaust manifolds. One of these is going on my wish list! Thanks for enlightening me.

    Watching the news this evening....

I checked our smoke detectors recently and just added two 5LB extinguishers in the shop for safety. I firmly believe that any garage that is used for anything other than parking the car and storing the snow shovel should be detached from the house. I wouldn't have a shop attached to my...

    An astute observation

Good to hear. I stayed home from the time our son was 18 months old until he was in school full time and I am prepared to stay home with our new little one once the wife goes back to work. We absolutely don't believe in daycare/baby sitters any more. It's something I never thought I would...

    Sandblasting Kitchen Cabinets

It's not a bad idea by itself. Just the idea of using a blaster is bad. Start by using a chemical stripper to remove the finish. Once that is done see what you have. If you want less color start sanding until you are happy. If you sand too much stain again. Staining by applying stain and...

    Sandblasting Kitchen Cabinets

First off I would say that sandblasting will result in having to purchase new cabinets. I don't know how you would keep the surfaces "true" when using a blaster to remove stain or any finish from wood. The panels are bound to end up with all kinds of high/low spots and I can't imagine the wood...

    Best cordless drill?

Typically I am a big fan of Milwaukee tools, and I own Makita and Dewalt, but two years back I bought a Ryobi 18V cordless drill and I have to say it has been great! It came with one of those handy flashlights two batteries and a charger. The whole thing has been perfect so far and it was far...

    Garage Wiring Ideas

Good advice all around. I like to use double gang boxes so I have four outlets at each location rather than only two. Otherwise you end up being short of outlets. Plan your wiring carefully. Some outlets you will want at or near bench height so they are easy to get at. Other outlets you may...

I don't want to see this stuff in my garage anymore

I suppose you could build a light frame "box" with an access panel for routine maintenance of the systems and screw it to the existing framing so that it could be taken off and slid away in the event of a mishap. Going tank less for hot water would eliminate one bulky product and might save...

fume extractor hood over welding table

Most shops, mine included will have plenty of "make up air" for a range hood fan I'm sure! I was thinking about using a squirrel cage fan etc. with a louvered wall vent near the welding area to get the fumes and generally provide shop ventilation, in a future new, insulated, wrapped, lined &...

80 gal. compressor: Eaton or Porter Cable?

The Eaton gets the nod here. In regards to the motor ignore the "advertised" horse power and look instead at the amp draw of the motors. Here is a calculation I saw in another forum for calculating true Horsepower based on the amp draw. For example, a five HP motor should draw about 15 amps...

fume extractor hood over welding table

I am thinking about doing the same sort of thing when I build my new shop. Right now I am putting up with the fumes. :( One of the things I have wondered about is the issue of the exhaust fan drawing flue gases into the shop from the shop heaters exhaust. Those fumes are potentially more...

    Compressor in attic

In the summer it will get really hot. In the winter I think you would have serious condensation problems when the hot compressed air hits the freezing cold tank and lines that are located in the uninsulated space. Condensation might freeze in the tank if not drained promptly? Is the attic...
