Proto Pliers. Not worth the $.

Get some really fine sand from a craft store. Put some of it in the joint with some 3 in 1 oil and work the action. It'll loosen them right up. Sounds like ********, but I've used this method several times, and it always works.

Why entry level socket sets still include SAE?

You don't have to like it, but facts don't stop existing because you don't like them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metrication#:~:text=In%20the%2019th%20century%2C%20the,law%20was%20adopted%20in%201871). Take a look at this chart. The last time a country switched over completely to the...

Why entry level socket sets still include SAE?

It's not that simple. It's insanely expensive to convert everything to metric. Just think about how many road signs would need to be replaced. You'd have to pay for materials, labor to manufacture the signs, and labor to install them all so that we can measure how quickly we're going in...

Tell me what you like & don't like about your US General tool box

I have a first generation five drawer cart and a second generation 44" box. I have two complaints with the cart. The first one is that the lid doesn't sit at a 90 degree angle when it's up which isn't an issue with the second generation model. My second gripe is that the top area isn't as deep...

Would this ratchet serviceability complaint bother you?

You don't have to make a trip to the store if you service it. It's wasteful to get a new ratchet when a few minutes of effort can restore it.

Would this ratchet serviceability complaint bother you?

I would share his complaints about serviceability if it was actually true. Those internals are very common on Taiwanese ratchets. I've serviced plenty with oil and never had an issue. I'm not saying he isn't having issues, but I'd bet money it's not oil related.

    Show your new tool arrivals

I wasn't a fan of the size either. I think the length of the regular length confort grip is the perfect size. I wish you could get one in that length without a comfort grip though.

    Husky Tools! What Happened?

We have lots of Husky stuff in the lift motor rooms at the ski resort where I work. They're not the most pleasant tools to use, but they've consistently gotten the job done. I think their biggest drawback is that so many of their set skip sizes, and the quick release button on their ratchets...

Give me your thoughts on 1/2" ratchets

This is a good route to go especially for 1/2" drive where tooth count isn't as important. Easily within your price range. If it was me I'd see if I could find a used 30 tooth Cornwell on Ebay. They're rugged, smooth ratchets with a great handle contour in my opinion.

Tools to keep in a vehicle

I used to carry one of those hammers, but I found out about the Res-Q-Me about five years ago and haven't looked back. It's a nice, small package that I can hang from my rear view mirror. https://resqme.com/product/resqme/

My brother-in-law asked for these for Cristmas...

Just talk to him. Ask why he wants them. If he has a specific reason for wanting them then get them for him. If he's looking for something for basic repairs then ask if he'd be interested in an actual socket set.

Metal guards on stud for wiring

Yes. Ever tired to pull romex out of a box with those tabs? Let me know how it works for you. What are you going on about? I'm aware staples are cheap. I'm not saying not to use them. I'm just pointing out why I think the code us written the way it is.

Metal guards on stud for wiring

For sure. It definitely falls into the "is this really ******* necessary" category for me, and I think reasonable inspectors probably feel the same way.

Metal guards on stud for wiring

Just a heads up for when Iowa adopts the 2020 code, but that's not the code reference in the 2020 edition. It's 314.17(B)(2).
