Garage, wood directly in the ground. I don't understand.

I think it's penny wise and pound foolish and hopefully when I do this....that's not the way I'm going to have it done. I put together cars and engines. I'm not talented enough to say "build engines and cars". However, I always do what my experience or common sense says I should do. I'm sure...

Garage, wood directly in the ground. I don't understand.

I want to be smart when I do this.(Don't we all) Morton building of the correct size and options. Perma Column posts. PERFECTLY done concrete floor of 6 inches as I want to put in a reasonably sized car lift. My dream is a Mohawk. I will be standing there as every lump of concrete is poured. I...

Garage, wood directly in the ground. I don't understand.

Forget handing it down...I think part of the cost would be made up in resale value of the property when we retire instead of just getting tired.

Garage, wood directly in the ground. I don't understand.

I was really impressed with the "Perma Column" info http://www.permacolumn.com/. I'm also a real fan of Morton buildings. Everyone says that they are top quality. It turns out that Morton will build with Perma Column. That just seems like the way to go and if Morton will build with it, it...

Garage, wood directly in the ground. I don't understand.

http://www.permacolumn.com/ This looks like the cats A$$! I'm sure there are other systems but I'm sure their all very similar. The least labor intensive system would be to put the post supports in when still wet. I have to have a concrete floor as the main purpose of my building is a garage...

Just signed up for a beginner welding class

I took a beginning welding class and I got so tired of stick welding just long lines of bead after bead after bead. I finally got through that went to auto wire feed Mig. Speed went up dramatically. I'm still not a welder I would risk my life on but I know enough to know when my weld sux. I'm...

Garage, wood directly in the ground. I don't understand.

I'm going to put up a building and I'm looking at Morton. However, I just understand putting wood beams, pressure treated or not, directly in the ground. I thought putting wood in the ground was to be avoided at all cost. That's why they make concrete foundations. How do these buildings avoid...

I really must be nuts. I'm thinking of putting up a building

It's true....she bought me the air compressor for a holiday gift. Ya know...this is kind of weird. I hear the Twilight Zone theme in the background....

I really must be nuts. I'm thinking of putting up a building

Oh what a slippery slope. I got a decent air compressor, now I'm shopping for a lift. My wife says, "why don't you put up a bigger garage for the boat and RV?". Oh lord...now I've got a Morton building catalog. I really need to educate myself about all of this. There are so many options that...

    Roll-up doors

At a previous employer, they had roll up doors. Man, were they super heavy duty and didn't take up any space inside. They also took huge amounts of abuse. However, they cost something close to the national debt and when they did break, which was very rare considering their use and abuse, the...

    Greg Smith?

So I've been investigating which lift to get and probably posting it here ad nauseam. I do that. I investigate purchases to the point where the manufacturer has likely thought about putting a hit out on me. There's just no doubt that Mohawk and Rotary are the best but we're talking Ferrari...

    out side compresser house?

God I don't want to rain on your parade but I just couldn't do it. I just bought an IR 5hp and plan to put it under the basement stairs. I'll level it as is best as possible with some cool articulated isolated levelers. I just would be afraid of too extreme temperature changes or water getting...

    Steel building?

My wife suspects and I can confirm, that if I were to put up a steel garage that was like 60x60 it would have small living quarters and I would never come back to the house. It's a dream....Car lift, welder, compressor, tools, gun reloading area....big screen TV, radiant floor heat, air, leather...

    Room for garage lift

So I'm going with a lift and I have a 10'6" 0r about 127"'s to the ceiling. I have the typical automatic garage door paraphernalia running down the middle. I kept thinking, what the heck am I going to do with that stuff? Why can't I just remove it and make the door manual? The only down side...

    Compressor Oil

This is why my compressor is in my basement, under the stairs that lead to the garage. I'm not sure how much of a difference but it makes me feel better.

    air tool costs

I'm not sure I'd stoop to Harbor Freight (sorry, I bought an air ratchet from HB and it never ever worked. All it did was leak and I had to take it back). However, if the Cleco does come with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner...I might pick one up. I played Microsoft Flight Simulator once and have stayed...

    Should compressor be leveled?

I gotta tell ya....I'm not taking my 5hp compressor off the skid. It's as level as my floor. It's really a well made pallet that I'm going to reinforce even more. The compressor is well bolted to it. I've no interest in drilling holes in the floor.

    air tool costs

So I finally got a pretty decent air compressor. Ultimately I'll get a blasting cabinet etc. I have a CP Impact gun I'm happy with and an IR ratchet that I wish was a bit more powerful but hey, it works. So I have a friend who works at Boeing. I was yapping at him the other day and mentioned...
