Space efficient Socket and Wrench Storage

I like the DIY coiled wire wrench racks. They're cheap, adjustable, and allow for dense packing of the wrenches. Someone on here suggested it a while back and I've been happy with it.

1947 Craftsman 100 Drill Press motor capacitor

A modern day capacitor with the same mfd rating is a suitable replacement. One in that size should be relatively small. Looking at pics on your drill press online, it looks like you might be able to hide it under the base of the motor.

    Looking for emergence come-along winch

Ah well that's different. I bought a Maasdam Pow'R Pull come along from Home Depot a few years ago. They've got a 1 and 2 ton version as well as a strap version. It's worked well the times I've used it and is made in the USA too.

    Looking for emergence come-along winch

You might be better carrying a small shovel, handsaw, and maybe some small pieces of wood/cardboard/rug etc. There's also purpose made plastic grippy panels for this. You could use these to get traction on your drive wheels. The come along is only going to help if you have something to anchor...

    Building your own lathe?

Keep a look out on craigslist for used machinery. You can use something like searchtempest and quickly search for a lathe within *** distance from your location. Check daily and you'll probably find a few good candidates. Until then, read up on buying a used lathe so you can separate a good...

    Prentiss #100 Bicycle Vise

I haven't heard of that one before. A more immediate concern is a lack of pics in this thread. We, the vise addicted, need pics of your dozen Prentiss vises!!

Snap-On Ratchet with or without comfort grip

Not normally. They're on there pretty solidly. I bought a used ratchet that looked like the grip had seen heavy use. It did rotate a bit but I replaced it with a new grip which doesn't move at all.

    Shockwave bits "absorb" torgue?

I agree with the guy above who said they're like small torque sticks. They twist and take some of the torque to avoid breaking the head off the screw or stripping the head or hole. With an impact it would probably hold the torque to some limit. With a drill it'd probably give you a brief bit...

    2017 Lowe's deals/sales/clearance thread

Thanks to the original poster about the German Irwin's. I managed to find one for $4.50 today that had no indication it had been marked down. But I knew better.

    Old electric hacksaw

No. Not really. That's why they've been replaced by bandsaws over time. But if it's cheap enough and all you have is a hand powered hacksaw it's a good upgrade. I own a larger power hacksaw and use it regularly. Bandsaws are faster but I'm never in a rush.

    460V Single Phase Air Compressor?

My money's on 3 phase as well. Like Larry said, no caps on the motor also indicates 3 phase.

    Arbor Press

The Dake 201 is a 6 Ton model. Yours is missing the ratcheting attachment. Oddly, Grainger has them for sell with more info if you're curious: https://www.grainger.com/product/DAKE-CORPORATION-Arbor-Press-40F031 Not sure how much a new one would cost but I doubt it's the value shown on the...

    Clausing DP

I concur with everything above. Look into it and find out what's wrong. My Clausing stopped working when the motor capacitor went out. $10 later I was back in business.

    David's Random Cleanups

I was helping a guy clean out a storage unit that had some machine tools in it today. I snagged a few things including this rusty part off of a machine that was missing some major parts and being scrapped. I put it in Evaprorust for 4-5 hours until all the rust was gone. I pulled it out...

    David's Random Cleanups

Thanks for the comments! I'd say 95% of the chrome is still there. Its just not as bright as it used to be.

    David's Random Cleanups

Like most of you, I pick stuff up from time to time and return it to service. I figured I'd make a running post instead of individual ones. I ran by a thrift/junk shop today and found a few things. One was this rusty Snap-On breaker bar. I bought it as part of a group of stuff so I don't...

Delta Drill Press Broken drive pulley

Reeves pulleys are pretty expensive. Unless you find another Delta VS DP that has some other issue to use as a donor you'll spend more money than it is worth to fix yours.

    Ridgid Pipe Wrench Age?

Baking Soda works fine for me. I've used it to remove rust from numerous parts with electrolysis without issue.

Inherited some air tools - what do I need to know?

I'd oil them up and go. If they give you problems you can look into cleaning them.
