Generator won't start, back fires instead. Valves?

Were the valve clearances set by the manual? If it is an OHV, There is a specific location in the rotation to set them, And it is not TDC. 1/4" down the cylinder after TDC I think, but check. Backfire from the intake must be either an intake open slightly, way early timing or exhaust not...

Raising and lowering items from shelves

That was my first thought also. Full extension, heavy duty drawer slides could be used to make the shelves move in/out. Not inexpensive, but a workable solution. Lift the container even with the shelf, pull the shelf out, lower load, push it in. Doesn't have to be done at every location...

    Epoxy and flakes outside?

Thanks, that looks exactly like flake color the restaurant used. The guy doing it said it was epoxy. But a lot of people seem to use epoxy like we do Kleenex, everything similar gets tagged with the same name.

    Unknown Tool

I've seen a similar cutter used on a special machine that hogged out the clearance cutout for forklift tines in pallet parts. Scary looking thing, the 2x4s went through on a conveyor and the cutters were completely exposed. Two sets, one for each forklift tine, and each set made of multiple...

    Epoxy and flakes outside?

At a local restaurant last night and they have installed a good looking epoxy and heavy flake on part of the sidewalk and entry. Sealer/clear will be put on after closing time. Are any of these products approved for exterior floors. I have a patio and front porch that would look good with...

Concrete paver damage on front stairs. Best way to proceed?

Could have been wet-set on the original concrete pour. I would set in Thin-set applied to both the paver and step surface with a 1/4" or so notched trowel. Use modified thin-set as it holds up to weather better than the cheaper/weaker kind. Clean up high spots with a grinder and/or hammer...

Beam for gable end of garage for single overhead door (converting from 2 doors)

As a reference, every garage built in the 60s-80s in my area had a double 2x12 with 1/2" plywood sandwiched between them for every garage, up to 16ft doors. My shop has 10ft doors with a double 2x6 + plywood spacer. No sag at all since 1967 when Dad built it. Code and inspector will...

    Dust collection setups !!

Mine is all disassembled now but was used mostly to collect planer, jointer and table saw leavings. I used a 2hp Grizzly unit with a premium, (finer dust catch) upper bag and normal lower. But I also had one of the cheap trash can lids that held most of the big stuff. Easier to empty than...

need advice how to make this gathering table

I agree that the apron is probably going to be enough to counteract racking forces if 4" or more. I'd probably make it 5-6" and raise the table an inch or so. More important is the need for really accurate fits, leg to apron. The diagonal bracing others have pictured at the corners will...

Some advice on wood for a deck railing

Interior or exterior use? What kind of finish do you plan? Those and some other details will help folks make a recommendation. Western red cedar, Oak(white or red), old growth pine, poplar and a host of others can be made to work with the right finish. But the interior vs exterior...

    Can't figure out the Issue

Commercial and residential are installed down usually, just by convention. But, every hospital, clinic and urgent care I've been in have them up. Something about objects that fall hit the ground, not a live wire.

    4-prong cord on a range that came w/ a 3-prong cord?

Glad you got here first, saved me from being the bearer of negative news. It is amazing how often the standard wiring for a 'normal' 240v load is confused with the 'special' wiring for ranges/dryers from long ago. Like my woodworking tools have three wires, but the plug and receptacle are...

    DeVilbiss ABP-460-A Aluminum Air Pump

I had one like ( or very, very similar)to that one. The only problem with it was the reed valves. The only way I found to service them was to replace the complete valve plate and both gaskets. First two times was about 125 bucks per. One the third failure, no parts were available. But, it...

Post Your Woodworking Mistakes - Be Humble

I like to work with cherry. Cherry is also a fine wood to smoke chicken and pork, and beef if using a sweet sauce.. So that's where my mistakes get corrected. Mistakes taste great!

Maybe someone could help explain just what I have

Does this still apply if the gas supply is plastic? The only iron pipe in the ground is the riser and it's epoxy coated so insulated from the soil.

    Door hinges seem off

After a closer look, it seems to me that the middle is lined up ok, but the bottom is not. Remove one bottom leaf and see if the middle slides in place. If so, maybe reinstall the bottom loosely, put the pin in and tighten screws. Or swap parts til you find the magic mix.

    Door hinges seem off

A look at the latch side should tell you if it is a hinge, door or jamb issue.

    Board Batten?

I think LP is also concerned. The installation instructions for their siding and trim stuff recommends no ripping. And if it is tripped it must be primed and painted, preferably before installation. But, I have ripped some but it was the thick stuff used for trim, 5/4 lumber replacement...

    Leaking steel roof

I think a pic from outside and another with a wider span would help diagnose the problem. I can't be sure which is the wall and roof and have never seen a wall roof junction like that, appears to be an angle bracket???
