On my stair landing it's being called out for 2-posts to be in the wall to support the knee braces. Should these be framed to the bottom of the plates or should they be made a specific height? See attachment.

Do you have to use a cripple stud wall on a wall that is on a stepped footing? I have one wall that has 2 - 6" steps. Do they do this because it's easier to frame? IBC2012. thx matt

My plans were drawn with a monolithic pour but after talking to a concrete contractor because of the slope of my lot he is suggesting going with a footer and stem wall. I talked to the city and they said put together a detail and bring it back to review. I haven't been able to find any...

What's with building codes saying that a garage floor has to slope. What has your builder done?

I did get a little more info. It's premium grade #1 White fir. I got the name of the company from a builder and he uses them because of the quality of the lumber.

I just got a quote for the lumber package for our garage. All the framing members are "Premium KD S4S Whitewood". Is this the go to lumber these days? thx matt

If the stairs are outside and you **** the tread to the riser it will drink water. If the tread goes under the riser it will shed water. Also, If the stairs are racked at all and the tread goes under the riser the tread is easier to cut in.
