    Hole saw speeds in wood

Ok, I'm a bit confused. Looked at the starrett hole saw speed guide and it said for a 3" hole saw, use 1800rpm in wood. And then I looked at a ruko speed guide, and it said use 168rpm for wood. What gives with the huge difference? :dunno:

Socket drive size just a little smaller than 1/2"???

I picked up a single double square 13/16" snap on socket out of a pile at a swap meet. Cool! I Actually have some 13/16" square bolt heads on some old equipment. It's a underline snap on with No.426 stamped on it. I thought it was 1/2" drive, but it's not. It's a shade smaller than 1/2". Much...

Motor horsepower comparisons from old to new.

Is there something that has changed in the HP rating for electric motors over the years? Why does it seem that a 30 year old motor with 1/4 or 1/3 HP runs stronger than a new 1/2HP? Is this my imagination?

    Amateur question: drill press speeds

Ok, ive got an amateuristic question ... Why is the recommendation for drilling wood and softer materials high in the 2000-3000rpm range? What happens if you try to drill wood at say 400-700rpm? For a 1/8" bit? (When I use a handheld cordless or corded drill, I pay no attention to the rpm...

Drill presses. Vintage or more modern?

I've got a benchtop 3 speed drill press, and I use it so much more than I ever thought. The more I use it, the more there were days that I wish I had a floor standing press. It also only goes down to 600 ish rpm, I wish it had a speed down in the 300-400's. Of course, I love the antique/vintage...

Ive for a driveway that is convex sloped. It's about 2 degrees near the garage door, but increases in its slope to about 6 degrees at the curb. Granted, I'd probably put the stands closer to the garage door where the slope is closer to 2-5 degrees. Would you buys put a car up on 4 jackstands...

I had a cat that needed the O2 sensor threads cleaned up. Bought the Lisle tool, and someone recommended I use antiseize as the cutting lubricant. Tool worked fine, except afterwards, the chaser has these little nicks on the first few turns of the threads now. Cheap tool? Wrong lubricant? Or...

    Designing a drill bit

Hi folks, I'm sorry to be somewhat vague about this question and application, but if someone could school me or refer me somewhere for more info that would be great.
