What the hell am I looking at?

Alright here's a new one for me. So yesterday I went out to Bum-f$%@ nowhere Colorado to start one of my idle compressors and noticed some odd voltage numbers on my pre-startup checks. 480V 3phase dedicated service from POCO , no loads, main breaker open, readings taken from line side of...

Will this motor work for Air Compressor?

THIS! Too much grease or the wrong grease is worse than just leaving it alone in a lot of cases. I've also seen motors that came with sealed bearings (not shielded) where someone came along and pulled the pipe plugs out of the end bells and put zerk fittings in, I guess they thought the...

Shout out to McMaster Carr, they're awesome.

haha same here, Grainger is 10 minutes from my house, I only go there if I absolutely have to, the customer service isn't great and you'll be lucky if you ever get ahold of anyone with any technical knowledge at all.

Shout out to McMaster Carr, they're awesome.

Mcmaster is hands down my favorite supplier to work with. Whether your account is with a multibillion dollar company or a one man shop their customer service is the same; amazing. There are also really good technical references on the website and catalogs.

    Welding stainless steel

Another option is solid SS wire with tri-mix gas, I had good results with that at the brewery I worked at (brackets, guarding, etc. no tube or anything like that  ) If I remember correctly tri-mix is pretty pricey though. 75% of whatever heat I used for mild steel worked well for that...

Tips for Removing a Stripped Flush Allen bolt

If you haven't already went to town on it with a drill then do This. Get a torx socket just a little bigger and hammer it in to the hole. Those hand held "impact" things work pretty good for this too if you have room to work.

    'Smart' multimeters

I would maybe get one for poking around on a breadboard like that just for shits and grins, but not for anything beyond that. I know it says 600v CATIII but I wouldn't trust it in my hand.

    Code or no?

 I should have said, if possible. There's one handle I can't even budge with my left hand. I've been told all kinds of stuff over the years, don't stand to the hinged side because the door will hit you, now it's stand to the hinged side because it will block the arc blast. Then it was...

    Code or no?

That could be  .....but they know the rules, If they want to keep their contracts, they'll follow them. Most accidents/problems happen when switching.... there's a reason you put your dominant hand up your ***, stand to the hinged side and look at the ground. It's also policy to where...

    Code or no?

No just for energized work, troubleshooting, switching with doors open etc. If they get asked twice, they're gone. Though we are still required to wear Cat 1 or cat2 (depending on the gear) for switching our MVMCCs even with doors and deadfronts buttoned up. Might be overkill, but even if...

    Code or no?

It's crazy how often you see it too, a lot of times from people who know better. I know I've had to stop jobs and ask experienced contractors to put on their gear and they look at me like I'm nuts. Complacency is a real problem.

    Spray bottle for mineral spirits

https://www.mcmaster.com/pump-sprayers/for-use-with~solvents/ I've used these for acetone and brake cleaner, seemed to hold up fine. https://www.mcmaster.com/pump-sprayers/small-capacity-hand-pump-sprayers/ https://www.coleparmer.com/chemical-resistance This is a good resource to check...

    Large funnel

I'm Re-loading molecular sieve into a couple of pre-purifier beds on an air separation plant. The sieve is basically pea sized beads, 12 55 gallon drums worth. The bed vessels have a 6" flange on the top, so basically I need to pour 55 gallon drums of sieve into a 6" hole some how. I have a...

    Large funnel

Does anyone know of a manufacturer that makes really big funnels? I'm looking for something with like a 3-5.5" outlet hole and like a 1.5-2' top, height isn't all that important. I've looked and can't seem to find anything like it. Starting to think I might have to just make something...

    Grease Gun Storage

The one on my truck mounts vertically with one of these things. https://locknlube.com/collections/greasing-accessories/products/heavy-duty-grease-gun-holder Not locknlube brand, but they're all made in the same place. And then I have a pig mat wrapped around the bottom of the tube...

Does it still make sense to buy 3/4 drive tools?

I wouldn't buy anything over 1/2" from snap-on, or any truck brand really. industrial brands have bigger stuff covered just fine for a lot less money.

Just throw some snow on that electrical fire in there and poke around with your bare hands, it'll be fine....

    Code or no?

I appreciate that, feel free to question all you want, the last thing I'd want to see is someone unqualified fiddle farting around with something like this. I'm the first one to put my PPE on and follow procedure, I've seen what arc flash/blast can do and I think I'd rather just be dead than...

    Code or no?

I have this MCC at a site that scares the **** out of me any time I have to do any switching or troubleshooting. I know I need a platform in front of the doors.....that's in the works. But even if there was a platform does this meet code? With the doors open there's only 21" between the face...
