    Aviation snips recommendations

Thanks for the reply. My needs mirror yours; just light, random usage around the house/garage. Also read about Malco and believe they are USA-made, as well.

    Aviation snips recommendations

Just looking for a decent pair for home use. Something that cuts avg gauge ducts, sheetmetal and other materials. Looked at Irwins but some feel they are not sharp enough for cutting without extreme effort. Browsing Amazon reviews but, obviously, GJ is the best place for tool info. Budget up to...

    GFCI question

Turns out the spare GFCI I had was shot, too. Got it from my dad when I cleaned out his place after he passed away. Looked brand new but he never threw anything away. Long story short, installed BRAND NEW GFCI and all is good. Thanks to all who replied

    GFCI question

Thanks so much for clarifying. Just swapped the unit and still not working so I will check the 2 additional outlets downstream. Have power to the GFCI but not the GFCI outlets or the 2 outlets downstream themselves. Again, appreciate your reply

    GFCI question

My kitchen GFCI needs to be replaced as it is no longer working. I have a spare Leviton 20 amp GFCI, Model N7899 that I will use as a replacement. But, on the back of the new GFCI, it says do not use in damp or wet locations. Does that mean not to use outdoors and uncovered? This is a...

Tools you wish you had known about before you did it the hard way

Got one and love it! Clean out my desktop PC once a year, amongst other things. Used it this past week on a big screen repair; got so much dust out of the chassis and PCBs. Couldn't believe how powerful it was when I first used it. Had it over 7 years and still works great. Sometimes, it's...

Garden Hose Use in the Winter

I also like to rid my rides of salt, etc., during the winter. I'm in NJ so our temps are pretty similar. I basically wait for a day when the temps are at least 40, give or take, and give the cars a good washing. I had my mechanic remark how bad my brakes and rotors were after 35K miles because I...

    Leviton timer switch dead?

Something I thought, as well. The new switch is compatible with CFL/LED according to the manual. Not sure about the older model. The fixture I got takes incandescent and CFL but, for now, I'm using incandescent as I have a shitload when I cleaned out my dad's house.

    Leviton timer switch dead?

Honestly, that's a pretty cool switch. Beats that crappy timer dial thing I had 30+ years ago for a front porch light. Agreed. I've used it for 7 years and it worked flawlessly up until noI have read about the Honeywell timers having the same problem. After 5 years the internal component that...

    Leviton timer switch dead?

I thought so, too but the battery is not user replaceable, according to Leviton

    Leviton timer switch dead?

Thanks, Cobbler. Yes, breaker is on as I have other indoor lights on the same circuit and they are working. Just scratching my head to see if I overlooked anything and , since I double-checked my wiring, i am coming up empty. I'll probably pick up a new timer and install that. Could also return...

    Leviton timer switch dead?

I can try that but the timer worked perfectly since I installed it 7 years ago. The old fixture was dead but I still had power and display on the timer. I even checked the connections on the timer and they , wire-nutted and taped, were rock solid. Are you thinking the new light fixture is the...

    Leviton timer switch dead?

Just installed a new porch light. I had power to the Leviton VPT24 switch before I shut the breaker off to do the install. Went to turn the breaker back on and now the Leviton has no power, no display. I am trying to check continuity on the timer itself with a multimeter but, since the timer is...

Any tool (the music band)fans here?

Seen them twice in Jersey in early-mid 2000s. First heard them back on college radio in early 90s. Been a fan ever since. My philosophy is listen to what you like...everybody else's opinions shouldn't matter. I hate rap and pop so I just don't listen. But, if you do, to each his own.

Central AC issue and few questions

Fan blade turns with long stick but doesn't power up. I can check more tomorrow before tech comes. Not home now which is good because it was 90 inside AND out by me. Enjoy your 4th and be safe. PS Installed new capacitor yesterday hoping for a quick solution but no dice

Central AC issue and few questions

That's what my tech was thinking as a first solution to try, too. But, I'm not sure why, after manually pushing the plunger, the compressor came on but not the fan. And I also tried to start the fan manually by using a long wooden ruler. Blade spins freely but doesn't actually come on. Please...

Central AC issue and few questions

Yes, he was reading about 26.5 V @ the contactor. We did all our tests @ midnight after work so not the best condition to really dig further. Hopefully, my tech squeezes me in tomorrow. In the meantime ceiling fans and water. My buddy is not in the trades but he has a great understanding of...

Central AC issue and few questions

I have a heil/ICP unit that is 25 yrs old and part of a forced air system. 2 days ago, the unit stopped working; no compressor, no fan and no noise or humming can be heard from the outside unit. I have no experience with HVAC but I tried the easiest remedy which was to replace the dual...
