I just got a Weaver WA-72 floor jack rated at 2 tons. I am going to use it to jack up my 88 F150 at some point to change shocks, brakes etc. So it is rated at 2tons (4000lbs.) and the truck weighs in at around 5000 lbs. if I lift just the back half up to swap shocks I am only lift 2500 lbs...

    wheel balancer info needed

Not sure if this will be in the correct area, if not please move. I am looking at balancing the wheels on my Model A, to that end I was thinking of getting a bubble balancer due to space limitations. My question is: How good are they? I mean compared to a spin balancer type either on or off car...

best DIY air/oi separator filters set up

My generic air/oil filter valve crapped out. sealed it with glue hoping that would fix the problem-nope air blew through it-twice. So I am done with it. Now I need a good reliable system that won't leak or cost $$$$$$$. I have seen some around the $600 range. I don't want to go beyond that...

using a band saw to cut PVC

Can I use my band saw to cut PVC lengthwise? I figure I will go through a bunch of blades but it would be faster than using a hack saw. I also have a 3" cut off wheel saw than I can use. Mike

Am I reading this meter correctly

I am learning to use my Triplet analog meter and not doing well at it. I am testing a 9v battery to measure voltage. So if I read the scale correctly it is saying 12v (I have set the main switch/scale at 12v DCv). If I use my digital craftsman then it says 9v. So what am doing wrong here? Mike

    air sander vs. angle grinder

Quick question-I am installing floor pans with my MIG welder, so that means a lot of grinding on my part. I have a 4.5" angle grinder that I can use stones with or I can get a backer pad and use sanding disks with it. The other Option I have is to get a 5" air sander and use the disks with that...

looking for a 3 hp electric Air Compressor motor

Ok. My AC motor is just not powerful enough to turn my rebuilt pump. I am looking for something in the 3 HP range, single phase with a CW (looking at the pulley) rotation. Everything I see is either 1Kish, 3 ph or Home deport quality. Any ideas on where to look for a good quality motor? I am...

    Compressor motor keeps shutting off

Just rebuilt my Wayne compressor and it has a new 1.5-2 hp Leeson motor on it. The flywheel is a 18” and weighs in about 15 lbs or more (guessing here). The issue is that it runs for about 30 sec. And trips the breaker. And it is getting really hot. It is currently set up for 220 on a dual...

Double sided fire place insert gas or wood

This is our double sided fireplace. Right now on this side we have a wood stove that heats quite well the little family room we have. The other side is an ugly *** gas insert thingy. After we have new floors installed we would like to get rid of both the stove and gas insert. The question I...

    silversolder question

I am going to start practice silver soldering some copper pipes for my Air Compressor this weekend. My questions are these: 1) I have seen videos of two different styles of soldering. One video will show the normal heat and the solder will wick into the joint. 2) I have seen another video...

    metal warpage during welding

DIY beginner welder here with a warping question. Is it possible to determine if the metal at a weld will either raise or lower due to warpage by looking at the seam where the two metals meet? The reason I ask is this, I just did a but weld (steel to steel-19 ga.) and I thought both pieces were...

    Gas tank rust removal results

Somewhere here is a thread dealing with rust removal via sodium citrate and washing soda. I keep losing the one I replied to and I said I would post the results of my gas tank rust removal. So here I go. I used one of those 75 gal tote things that is encased in a metal cage. Cut it roughly in...

    Air compressor run help

Ok, here is how I plan to plumb my air compressor. Please look it over and let me know what you think. First off the compressor is a two stage with inter cooler/after cooler made of copper tubing. The air will then go into an after cooler before heading into the tank. It will go from the tank...

Why does my band saw blade bend and wander?

So I fired up my Craftsman band saw for the first time this weekend. It is a 12" from the 60's and I dropped the guard/guide down to just above the wood surface. Even then the blade would tend to bend and my cut would go from straight to diagonal. As a matter of fact I would have to hold the...

I am in need of a really good gauge for my air compressor system that I am building up. I bought one from a compressor company for the tank test and it started to leak water. It held pressure but water did come out of it. So I am looking around and gauges all appear to be about $20 and I am sure...
